I was wondering if anybody could suggest a 2 day walk which includes an overnight stop somewhere remote that's suitable for camping. I was thinking of somewhere in the Howgills as these are usually a bit quieter than the lakes and may be more suitable. Just a general outline would be greatly appreciated.
Depends on your transport plans.I have done trip from Garsdale Head station over to Cross Keys there is river to cross but can be detoured if you don't want to take your boots off, then to Cautley Spout -camp spot at bottom or sheepfold at top.Thence to Bowderdale and beyond or circular from C.Spout to Howgill,Sedbergh and return. Its quiet so other camp spots shouldn't be a problem.I have been up there twice in the summer and never seen a soul on route.
Good area I did this before I had a Gps and there are few short term distinguishing features ,other than grass tussocks, and the paths are not well walked so navigation needs to be concentrated upon.
I once got a train up to Kirky Stephen, walked over Wild Boar Fell, Baugh Fell and up to the Calf via Cautley Spout; stopped at the Calf overnight (great spot for a sunset and a sunrise!) and then wandered slowly back to the station at Kirkby Stephen via a more direct route, but it would be easy to do another day's walking before catching the train.
