I need reasons why I shouldn't spend money I don't really have spare on the following: PHD Minim300 in long for £149.43 An extra long length sack for less than £100 Relacement trekking pole for £29.99 The things I do need to spend my money on are as follows: - Fixing my boiler (I've no hot water) Saving for upcoming holiday Saving for central heating Saving for next years holiday (Alps, my first overseas holiday for 6 years). Plus numerous house a car issues that need to consume my money against my will. I do need help as I have the PHD checkout open on another tab and it would be soooo easy to buy it. This is a serious problem. I need help!

Well, if you don't fix the boiler, you won't be able to have a shower, you'll be really dirty and smelly when you get into your lovely new phd sleeping bag and have to send it off to be washed immediately. Fix the boiler, then buy the sleeping bag

 |
Forget about the Minim, with no heating you'll need a warmer bag.

Good Idea Kate, but how long will the sale last? Hadn't I better get the sleeping bag first while it is still so cheap? I don't mind no showers, it reminds me of when I'm in the hills for a longer trip. So that's settled then, it makes more sense to get the sleeping bag. Kate says so. That's one problem sorted thanks to Kate, now what to do about the sack and poles compared to saving for the holidays and central heating? Any ideas?

Hard luck, ttg, there'll be another sale in August. And anyway, what's the point in buying gear if you can't afford the holiday to use it on?!
|
 |
Got heating, unfortunately storage heaters. Not cost effective but still warm enough for me. SO that's central heating on hold because I am warm enough with the minim so I can now get the sack. You guys are great. Really helping with my dilemma.

 |
Conversely, what's the point of a holiday if you haven't the gear to use on it? Hah! Never thought of that did you. Besides you can't change your mind, your argument was for getting it. That's how I understood it.
|
 |
Are you sure about the August sale? I do hope the minim 300 will be on sale then too. Its the right bag for me IMHO.

Jeez, strap on a pair TTG and get the kit . Just make sure that you get it delivered to your office address so that the long-haired CO doesn't find out . I bought a Minim 500 down bag and a Minimus down jacket in the PHD sale so you'll be in good company...

I'll leave the strap-ons to you Jake. I am a little too responsible for my own good. You know the type, got a job, got a house, got a savings account then blew it all on gear. Trying not to do that again. The annoying thing is I'm only making about 600g weight saving for these items. I have good stuff already its just this stuff is better. Now why didn't I know about PHD sales before I got my current sleeping bag. IT was about the same price I think. Jake - What is the fit like of the sleeping bags? I just wondered what the volume around the torso is, I would have thought they were a snug fit. What does the fabric feel like on your bag. Does it feel strong enough and a durable fabric? Someone has almost put me off the light PHD bags saying that they don't last long if you use it a lot.

I know what you mean (although I've never blown a job and a house and a savings account on gear ). I lost my job last year and had to take a pay cut of a third just to get back into work but I've still got a kit habit, just not as excessive as it used to be.
I honestly don't know about the fit of the PHD bags. I asked a couple of bods on here and they said snug but not excessively so. I already have 2 Cumulus Pertex bags and they are plenty strong (snagged the zips loads of times and no damage) and feel fine against the skin so I've no worries about the feel of the fabric or its durability. I didn't realise that PHD had another sale in August. That might be a better time to buy.

My car costs me a fortune too, its a heap of junk. Only had it a few years and have probably spend around £3000 on it just in repairs alone. Gonna get something German, Japanese or maybe Ford/Vauxhall next I don't think I'll have as much problems with them. I don't think I'd have as many problems with An Alfa! Taking cold showers and saving money on heating will get you aclimatised for the alps! Seriously central heating is over-rated anyway. I don't think its that efficient or controllable between different rooms, its not an exact science. Its either too hot or too cold, quite a bit different between rooms, and also can never get the timings of when it comes on and off perfect to suit everyone. One of the best things you can do is just thoroughly insulated your home and plug any places heat escapes and cold blows in. John

Too late, bought a golite quilt from outdoors warehouse for £100 or 50% off!. Central heating is next year. I live near my parents so can use their hot water if I'm desperate. Also My gym memberhip allows use of their showers, steam room and sauna so that's useful.

Trouble is the gym has its perks. Like good source of excercise, I enjoy it, there is a good sauna and steam room plus there is a good view in there. Right across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland mountains, really beautiful. Besides, this year is the one where I push myself to see just how fit I can get. Honest. I'm happy now anyway, spent £100 on a quilt saving £100 in the process. Paid for by work expenses (40p per mile goes a long way towards topping up one's pay in some months).

I know i should say be sensible but that would be coming from a guy that has brought 4 packs and 5 or 6 different knifes in the last 12 - 18 months. Maybe its a form of addition, is there any can't stop buying gear anonymous meetings.
