I recently bought a Garmin 301 - thanks for the advice!

I've got it set up on the WGS 84 datum, which is good for where I live, but I'm going to the Lakes at Easter and want to use it with OS maps.

Could anyone tell me what Datum I have to use and how I can set it up?

Thanks

Chris

You may see it as OSGB 1936 or OSGB 36 on some. That is the same - it just refers to the year the datum was established.

That's fantastic, thanks a lot, both of you. Now I've got to figure out how to use this thing!

Great memory!

Cheers

Hi there I've just bought the garmin Oregon 450 and I'm a ludite.
I want to put in a walk from a book that has gps waypoints already for example SE 456 972 followed by SE 456 976.

How do I add all the different waypoints into the garmin unit ?

It's driving me crazy.

Make the answer simple please and step by step

Kind regards

Rick

I'm not familiar with the Oregon but I have both a Geko and a Foretrex and I suspect that the method of entering waypoints is the same.

I assume that you have set the receiver to the correct time zone and map datum.

1 The first thing that you have to appreciate is that you can only enter a 10-figure reference. You have been given a 6-fugure reference so you have to convert it to a 10-figure reference by adding two zeros to both the easting and the northing i.e. SE 45600 97200 and SE 45600 97600.

2 Next, wherever you happen to be (at home of anywhere in Great Britain) press the appropriate button (usually 'OK' or 'Enter' to get a waypoint for your current location. You have to edit this 10-figure waypoint by changing the letters and numerals to the waypoint that you want to enter which in your case is SE 45600 97200. You then have to repeat the process for your second waypoint.

Instruction manuals can be downloaded from the Garmin website.
