Either be hard and wait until the wind is blowing and then wash in cold water and dry naturally with arms outstretched.  Or get a towel.

If Mrs RaR packs, we take a towel.  If I pack, we take the microfibre lifesystems thing that I bought and she hates as it is not 'fluffy' enough.

As some of the little Paramo gear I do own, the Parameta S towel does actually work!

Link thingy

Btw, those micro towels are sh1t.

Absolutely not so, imo. A bit pricey perhaps but I find the Packtowl Ultralites to be excellent - soft feel, really absorbent, easy to wring and quick drying. I can get dried after a shower, including my (admittedly short) hair, with a large one that iirc weighs about 50g. For purely wildcamping when I know I won't shower I take a small one.

"254gr, WTF. !

I'd use wrung out moss rather than that. "

"A small bottle of Southern comfort decanted into a 0.5lt ali bottle, usually with a wee drip of lemonade in there too, but most enjoyable a can of budweiser for each night,"

lol

Another vote for the MSR Packtowl Ultralight.  Ridiculously small and light, albeit pricey compared to the pound shop.  Very effective and dries quickly.

mainly about how people transport their thunderbird or special brew as part of the lightweight ethos into the hills - no doubt to compensate for the bloody awful food they insist upon eating.

or something like that.

I got a microfibre one from decathlon for £5. I'm very pleased with it. I even take it swimming. It's large enough that I can just about wrap myself up in it and it actually drys(unlike the other "backpacking" towel I've tried).

Previously I had a different lightweight towel and I hated it. It put me off microfibre towels for almost 10 years! I think it was an expensive one too. It didn't really dry and only came in sizes that were far too small.

Think about what you personally want from a towel.  I suspect this is an area where everyone has very specific needs and wants and there is no blanket good answer.

Vileda microfibre cloths available in Supermarkets, my one is thin blue and dimpled. An approx 6" square weighs 3 grams and holds 16 grams of water. That is when I wet it wait 5 seconds and carry it to the scales it weighs 19 grams. Wrings out to leave 4 grams of water and is thin enought to dry to 3 grams again on my hand in 20 minutes. tough enough to wring really hard and cheap enough to replace frequently.

I think they are good for getting condensation off tents, flannels and towels if you need those things. They are not big enough to cover yourself but otherwise a good cheap option.

Microfibre 'terry' hand towel from Poundland - blue, pink or white. 65 x 50 cms/100 grams. Absorbent enough for showers no problem. Dries out pretty quick too.
