Don't leave info on car windscreen - do leave info with family at home or with hotel or similar. Obviously there are problems on a multi-day trip in remote areas with no mobile signal if you get into difficulties on day 1.
Friends in MR recommend leaving route (can be very rough idea of route if likelihood of variation) with friends / family etc. and to leave contact details somewhere in car (phone no only, I guess!) but not on display.
I don't actually, when I'm walking in the Brecon Beacons (my locals), even on an overnighter, but do if I'm walking solo somewhere I don't know so well. Don't know if there's a lack of logic there...
Ah...yes Paddy, but you dont have the possibility of your tea is in the dog and slippers in the fridge, followed by..the TV is working but there is no sound scenarios
No... but I once told someone I was going away for a week... only to return home and find my funeral in an advanced state of preparation!
When people are prepared to worry to that extent when everything is just fine and dandy, I'd sooner just keep quiet and say nothing!
Honestly though... even if I 'trust' someone with something incredibly minor... they'll find a way of making a complete cock-up of it.
An example...
"I'm going to be away for ages, so can you forward ALL my post, except if it's postmarked Oldham, because I know what that is, and it's not important."
So... I get a letter forwarded to me with an Oldham postmark on it... while EVERYTHING else is kept at home!
With you on this Paddy - I'm not worried about where I've gotten lost, so why should they? For me it's a 'off to Wales' and that's about it but I did realise that if they came on here, they'd at least find which set off hills I was headed to. Forums eh?
