Off with the family to Zell am See in Austria, last week July for 2 weeks. Does anyone have any tips on 'must do' walks. The web sites I have found have lots of 'It's a walking paradise' type hype but is short on specifics. We are looking for walks 3-4 hours up to full days out.
I haven't found any references to decent peaks to do in the area either. I've skied there in the past so have some knowledge of the lift system and am aware that there will be some walking up on the Schmittenhohe.
We were staying in Salzburg a few years back and went out to Zell for a day trip. Salzburg is a stunning city, I'd go back at the drop of a hat as it was one of my favourite places I've ever been, so clean and welcoming. On the day trip out to Zell we took the skiers cable cars up to the top of the Schmittenhohe mountain and then did a walk along the ridge from there. At the resort they have maps of the mountain and have colour coded walks that you can do for walkers.
If you go to Salzburg, it may not be your cup of tea but we didn't think it would be either, the Sound of Music tour they do out to their Lake District is very funny!
That Trail and Piste map can be found online too...
Salzburg is on the agenda for a bit of culture, we have two musicians in the family so will be looking for a bit of classical music there.
As I mentioned I have skiied in Zell, but 30 odd years ago, and despite flying groups in and out of Salzburg for a winter season, I only visited the town once. Jamie, looks like you had a good tri, I think we'll give the chair lifts a miss though, they somehow seem more exposed in the summer when you can see the rocks below.
That walking portal looks like the business Parky, not sure why I couldn't find it I shall now do some planning. I usually find that if you leave too much till you get out there you find that a week has gone by and you haven't managed to get anything done.
