Hi I'm visiting a bothy next weekend and need some kind of cheap plastic sheet to put on the floor underneath my rollmat to kepp both rollmat and my nice new sleeping bag clean. Anyone know where I can get one. I have a survival bag which may do the job but it is too heavy. Thanks, Alastair

Hi, we usually use a couple of 'still attached' black bin bags. Just tear 2 off the roll at one go. Cathy.

Plastic dust sheets are light, tough and cheap. Just cut to size.

Oh... and Alastair... does this mean you had some luck selling the TNF Hightail? What did you get (or is this a summer bag that you're talking about). As I said I haven't tried the polycro, I thought I'd mention what I do instead... Depending on what I'm out and about doing, I carry an AMK Thermolite 2 bivvy bag (180g) and can use this as a groundsheet.

Thanks for the advise everyone. I think I would want something a bit more secure than 'bin bags'. Dust sheet: yes sounds fine. We have one at home, but smells of turpentine, so not using that - will consider. Polycro - yes will consider too. I'm sure the bivvy bag is good, but I've spent all my money for now, though will keep in mind for future. TNF bag, yes managed to sell and now have a Rab Quantum 600 which although I haven't used except at home appears to be a very good quality bag and the fill feels really soft and light and lofts well. First impresssions: I like it. I only have one bag for all year round and I know this is overkill for summer, but can't afford a light summer bag at the moment, though should do, to keep my winter bag in good condition.Any recommendationsonn a summer bag welcome, though probably for another thread. best wishes, Alastair

Off to B&Q or similar and you'll be able to new dust-sheets there in a variety of sizes and flavours. My wife has a Q600 and likes it a lot. She uses a PHD Minimus for light and/or warm duty, mainly as there was a 2nd hand one in the right place/time/price, but it would be one to consider anyway. Pete.

Or the 300's when their next regular sale comes round (Septemberish seemingly likely.). Backpackinglight.co.uk have some stuff precut into rectangles. Could be overkill mind as planned for tent ground sheet and seems pretty light. Perhaps not cheap though - here.

Peter and Martin, thanks for your help, alastair

I'd second the polycro - I use it as a footprint for my tent and to line the porch to keep the condensation down a bit. It's nice and light and packs down small. The only thing to note is it does rustle a bit. I've never noticed it under my tent but best to check! I'd also second the PHD suggestion, although I should say I've got the Minim 500 as I use that all year round...

Thanks for all your suggestions. I think I'll go for the dustsheet if it is cheap enough as this is a once a year event, with my tent preferred on other trips. I'll look out for the phd sale in September. Best wishes, Alastair

2 pack of 1 m X 2 m silver space blankest £1 at Poundland, they also do a 8 ft by 5 ft shelter tube, and they have £1 roll mats. Some more traditional hard ware shops and larger gardening suppliers sell polythene of the roll in different thickness so you can cut to size. Don't forget that old orange survival bag will do the job and like the bivi bag suggestion serves more than one purpose. If you want something thicker then cheap vinyl shower curtain is very hard-waring, but heavy.
