Nice is the fifth biggest city in France. If you can't find what you need there, you might as well fill your pack with pebbles on the beach and throw yourself into the Mediterranean! The problem is just trudging wearily round the streets until you find what you want.

I have tried to do so in Nice, and have trudged wearily around the streets ,and have failed. The european distributors for coleman gazs are no help at all, and the French are very stuck on campinggaz. There are a lot of supposedly 'outdoor' shops marked on the web which won't have a clue what you're talking about (& I speak excellent french). I strongly recommend that you do as Dazz says & get a converter (tho I don't have one myself). If you're going up country, there is a good outdoor shop in Tende, but I don't think they do coleman gaz.

Is there a Decathalon in Nice? First port of call for me if there is.

Is there a Decathalon in Nice? First port of call for me if there is. Oddly enough, some guy who has some connection with Decathlon told me there was. What you have to bear in mind with Camping Gaz and France is that Camping Gaz have sponsored some of the publicity that the FFRP produce (all those trails and information boards all over the country) so I guess they seriously want you to buy their products to the exclusion of all others. In France, gas is Camping Gaz, just in the same way that fromage (cheese) is a religion!

Yes there is a super Decathlon in Nice. I've mislaid my Nice street map but from memory head West along the Promenade des Anglais, that's in the direction of the airport, until you come to a major junction with the road going North to Grasse,(I think). Take that road North for less than a mile and lookout for a large shopping centre to the right. There's a Decathlon and its sister store in there. Great store. Excellent walking poles for less than £20./pair. Huge camping centre; they will certainly have what you want.

You might have to coax googlemaps into giving you the right location http://www.decathlon.fr/fr/store?store_id=PS_61

 > What you have to bear in mind with Camping Gaz and France is that... ... Campingaz is owned by Coleman. Weird, but true.
