Can anyone recommend a Campsite (tents) in or near to Keswick?

There's C&C Club site on the banks of Derwent water which is a 5 minute walk into Keswick itself of a couple of sites a couple of miles away over looking Derwent water (Castlerigg Hall and Castle Farm campsites).

Thanks Pete. I saw the C&C one whilst searching online. Seems ideally located for what we are after. Is booking essential (two tents, first weekend in Sept) do you know?

I think booking is advisable on a C&C site Mark especially as that's the last weekend before the kids go back to school from their summer hols.

I will do Pete. Rang a few times but only got an answerphone so far. WIll keep trying. Thanks again.

Unless you're a member the C+C campsite costs £16 a night for a single person in a one man tent. A complete rip off. There's a good campsite at Braithwaite a few clicks up the road. Good shop and three pubs in the village as well.

+1 for Braithwaite. Only when I stayed there I went to the one across the road from Braithwaite itself. Same campsite but its the group one which was a very quiet one. The other one was very very very very busy and we probably wouldn't have got in then.

Always stayed at Braithwaite (Scotgate site). Bit pricey but a good site and a couple of decent pubs in the village. Reasonable bus service into Keswick

Hi, not camped in Lakes since spring '08 and planning a 4-5 night hike/camping trip with 1 or 2 nights in Keswick area late-Sept. I've stayed at Scotgate many times since about '93 and its buildings changed quite a bit but the grass for the tents not changed at all. Still the same fat grumpy Scots handing out the red-ish tent labels, but the prices increased about 400%. I remember £2.25/night with car. I'm worried about what I'm now reading online it says "Please note: Families and couples only. Sorry no groups (this includes groups of families)" My need is myself, on my own, with a tent. However this seems to imply I'm ok "1 person & 1 tent, no car - low season £9.70, high season £10.75" A few other random campsite checks is showing up similar anti-individual views. Anyone been on their own at Scotgate recent months? Comments? I know to avoid it when kids off, in fact I avoid the Lakes July-Aug period.

Steve yes seen it from the Hevellyn range looking north. Quite some walking distance from Keswick but looking on the map (2.9miles) its not that much further than Braithwaite (2.3miles).
