I am prone to getting leg cramps. In my case the usual causes are:
Not fit enough. Not enough fluids. Cold muscles. Not enough food.
You seemed to have ruled out 1 and 2. Try nibbling some chocolate. I have also found that stopping and resting for a few minutes helps, provided the cramp isn't so bad that I can't sit down!
If none of these work it may be worth getting a basic health check to see if there is another underlying cause.
As GIS says, plus you could try streching Inner Thighs. Might be 'tighting' up because of the amount of exercise they are getting.
It's always a good idea too keep as flexible as possible and if possible include streches as part of a 'cooling down' routine, after exercise. In fact this is probably the best time to strech, as you are already 'warm' and less likely to pull a muscle if going from 'cold'.
That's a good thought, if you have recently got new boots/shoes, might just be you body getting used to them.
I've found that, sometimes, it's like in the 'old' days, you might not need to 'break' boots in much these days, but your body might need to get used to them.
Hi you may want to consider small daily doses of quinine sulfate tablets they act as a mild anti infliammatory, muscle relaxant and seems to works reducing nocturnal cramps.I do use these for a similar problem caused by an old spinal injury and have found it to be an effective solution. They can be purchased at chemists.
It may not be relevant, but after getting repeated leg cramps cycling last year I found taking Endurolyte tablets, from a company called Hammer (dreadful name) to be very helpful. I've no connection with the company, by the way - in fact I'm not a great fan of supplements at all. I think many other companies do similar tablets as well.
I used to get a lot of cramp and muscle spasms travelling home on the bus after a long walk. My sister, who's a practice nurse in Australia, suggested I try magnesium oxide tablets - she takes them for her periods cramp.
They work really well; but I do have to take them for several consecutive days before the walk.
I can also say that Quinine Sulphate is worth a try. I used to suffer from leg cramps, both upper and lower legs. My GP prescribed them for me, 1 a day and have very rarely suffered with cramps since.
