Beavers are cute and fun (and I realise that's open to interpretation, but you know what I mean) and they used to be native to the UK.

But how do we control Cameron McNeish (or is that where we're heading with the wolves)?

There was talk very recently (last week or so) of bringing Beavers back to Scotland. Down Argyll way IIRC.

There's been long talks about bringing wolves back to the highlands with the Glen Affric area tipped as a possibility as it still has areas of Caledonian Forest for the wolves.

As for the deer, they're not daft. With the cull going on in Feshie they all headed over to Mar estate at the weekend as there was hundreds and hundreds of them. However I do agree something needs to be done. Walking through woods from Derry Lodge towards Corrour there are no new trees to be seen outside the fenced areas. It's a fantastic little stretch but with no new growth...

I think there already are some wild boar in the UK (escapees from farms).

I've even heard that there is a colony of wallabies somewhere near Wolverhampton.

I think they should re-establish the Lynx as well, it was worked out that just one pair would limit the number of deer across the Inverpollaidh & Coigach area north of Ullapool.

I think it would be a great move!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ben, I think you may be refering to the wallabies that lived around the Roaches in Staffordshire, I had the unexpected joy of seeing a pair after finishing a climb there in the early 80's. Sadly they died out a few years ago (most run over).

Rather than needlessly exposing a pack of wolves to their natural predators, ie, humans, how about checking the true extent of red deer damage?

I propose leading a damage survey team, recruited from this web site, in cooperation with the regional authorities. In outline, such a team might consist of:
- 20 volunteers on the ground at any one time between May and December,
- All paid at the UK minimum wage or better,
- Finding their own food and accommodation, ie, tents, bothies, etc.
With:
- sponsorship by gear manufacturers and suppliers,
- TV coverage of the project.

Just a thought:-)) Any takers?

Tony, I was in the Smoke last Tuesday, they were everywhere. Took me six pubs before I could find a pub where one wasn't serving behind the bar! (Of course I did not not have a drink in the other 5, that would have been plain rude).

Hic!

Mike, have the wallabies gone?! Bugger it!! I used to love freaking people out by telling them that the UK had their own marsupials.

Never mind wolves, bring back the wallabies! Just picture a pack of them bounding across the south downs.
