Hi - I was to visit the lakes for the 1st time and rent a cottage for a week in June. Looking for advise on where to base myself. I have found a couple of nice ones around Keswick?
I want to take my dogs and this is limiting the avaliblilty of cottages!!
Would Keswick be to far north to get some decent walks in over a week?
keswick's slap bang between some of the higher hills and there's plenty to walk for a week, especially if you can stuff the dogs in a car for 20 minutes. there's all the hills around the town, borrowdale, buttermere, the dods, skiddaw and blencathra etc all pretty much on the doorstep.
You will be spoilt for choice in Langdale. One of my favourites is Pike O' Bliscoe - Crinkle Crags - Bowfell - Esk Pike - Angle Tarn - Rossett Gill (with slight diversion to Rossett Pike for view down valley). If not feeling v fit you can shorten that walk at a few opportuniies.
Then on other side of valley there is Pavey Ark and the Stickles.
For a day off there are plenty of gear shops and eateries in Ambleside.
