I bought some 2mm black reflective dyneema cord a few months ago. I think it was made/sold by Exped.
I can't find any for love nor money now. Does anyone have any idea where to get some from in the UK? (or have any spare for sale)

 Seems that nowhere stocks actually reflective dyneema cord right now. I spent a while searching, and settled on some normal stuff. Exped used to sell a few sets of pre-cut lengths of the stuff, but don't seem to anymore (or at least, everywhere has been out of stock for a while). Allegedly it pops up on ebay every now and then.

 Hilleberg guyline is, as you'd expect, about as good as it gets (and also as you'd expect, not cheap, though at least not ruinous). Sadly they've stopped doing the 2mm but you can still get the 3. Their locks are as good as it gets too IME. Which reminds me, need to retrofit the guys to the Hubba HP that have been under the bed since Christmas before it actually gets used... Pete.

The difference between the cygnus stuff and the hilleberg's stuff, (from say Alpenstock), other than the price, is the Hilleberg has the dyneema woven into the braid with alternating red nylon. The cygnus has a nylon sheath round a dyneema core. The core is not woven into the sheath and dyneema is so slippy that the dyneema can pull through at the ends. The solution is longer tails and more complicated end knots.

You're right Derek, when i cut the cord to length the Dyneema core could be pulled out. To solve this i sealed the end with a flame from a lighter.

When cutting anything like that don't use a sharp knife or scissors, use a red-hot knife (an old bone-handled one can be held while the blade is red hot without collecting festive burns). The hot blade will melt through rather than cut, and it seals the end at the same time it cuts. And it's cleaner than subsequent match-application. Pete.

Sail wing type kites use dyneema line. I bought some off ebay about two years back at prices which were a lot cheaper than camping shops. Its worth browsing around for such a source to compare prices.

cutting with a hot knife is best but with dyneema core and nylon sheath the dyneema does not melt into the nylon, they stay separate. The dyneema will still pull out with little strain. I saw somewhere that the best way was cut, pull out the dyneema 5mm cut again, withdraw it and seal the nylon closed. Obviously this is just for neatness there is still no weld. I do not bother with that, use a knot with lots of turns. The cygnus stuff is sold for kites. The smallest is 1mm which is still supposed to hold 70kg. That should be enough strength for guyline but it's bloody difficult to handle. It cuts into you. Tests suggest dyneema is weakened by knots to a much greater extent than nylon. So in use it is probably nowhere near as strong as that.

Bit of a moot point holding 70 Kg, since the anchor point will have ripped off your tent or the peg pulled long before that... I had a "sort out Guylines" day yesterday, using a pack of Hilleberg guyline and a pack of their line-locks (IIRC about £20 the lot from Alpenstock, 25m of line and 10 locks). Cut a set for the Hubba HP, cut a couple of extra extra super windy just in case ones for the Tarra (with mostly external poles you just clove-hitch them on anywhere you want)and then replaced the old ones on the Spacpacker, mostly because the original metal line-locks aren't that special and the original lines were a bit short. The lines on the Spacepacker weren't anything nearly as high spec as what's on there now, but they've done fine for years and years now, suggesting I'm being a bit fussier than I need to be. Pete.
