In the starting out forum I started a thread entitled "Alternatives to Tea/Coffee in the flask". There's been some good suggestions there already, but I was wondering what the TGO team of experts did in this situation. If you wouldn't mind posting on the other thread your answers it would be really helpful.

Okay. That's not a thread I've looked at, I must admit. My favourite hot drink is Rocks Organic Ginger, which is delicious and reviving, being sweet and spicy. In fact I'm drinking a mug of it now! On a cold windswept hillside it's wonderful. Otherwise I like hot fruit drinks - lemon or blackcurrant in particular.

Thanks Chris for that.
I assume Cameron is a malt whiskey man!

Off topic but will TGO be giving a progress report each month on how John is doing on the PCT?

John should be a week or so into his walk by now. He left for the States a couple of weeks ago.

I imagine TGO will mention his progress every now and then but that's up to Cameron.

I'll be very interested in his walk, as I did the PCT back in 1982. It was my first long overseas walk and I still rate it as one of the best.

Can you or Cameron post his progress on here please, and pass on our best wishes?

Just heard from John. I'll start a new thread with some info and update it each time I hear from him.

Re Darren's original comment about flask contents. Sorry I've taken so long to respond but I've been in Cornwall battling gale force winds on the Coastal Path for the past week. I thought the weather was supposed to be good down there? Anyway, I'm afraid I can't claim anything as exotic as CT to put in my flask. Boring old coffee - that's my flask tipple, although I have been known to liven it up with a tot of whisky. Incidentally I'm not a great malt whisky fan. I actually prefer a good blend, like Grouse. Having said that I do enjoy enjoy several malts - Bhunnahaven, Dalwhinnie, Highland Park are amongst the favourites, but they are all too good to mix with coffee. We have a little natural spring close to where I live in Badenoch and every so often I'll fill a flask with it and keep it in the fridge. A drop of that in the whisky releases the flavour...
As for Deputy Dawd Manning. When he left the office I told him to piss off for six months and not even think of TGO - the guys on holiday for heaven's sake. Last thing I wanted to do was tie him up with demands for regular bulletins...
