A few years back Roos was at a conference in Vancouver and we both went over a week early, figuring we'd find something to do. And c/o The Interweb we hooked up with a sea kayak club on Vancouver Island, and through them hooked up with a walker who was happy to be a local guide with a 4WD pickup. The transport coupled with local knowledge was very handy, we went for a day where even if we'd known about the walk we couldn't have got to it as it was a miles up a forest road to where we got started. So based on that I'd say see if you can find some friendly locals around where you may be headed. And there's probably a MEC near most airports you'd fly into... (they are worth a visit). Pete.

I did three weeks in the rockies a few years back... once the Icefields Parkway opens there's plenty to go at and the road itself is a joy. You have to get high to escape the damn treeshowever! Seakayaking round Vancouver Island is on a wishlist of mine. That's a proper good price for flights, I paid £319 when I went but it was a great exchange rate compared to now.

You can't go wrong if you go to Vancouver. The North Shore has plenty of walking routes and if you fancy something a bit more challenging, so north (about an hour and half drive) to Whister. If you fancy a city walk, Vancouver is pretty impressive and Stanley Park has plenty to offer. Make the most of the Canadian Affair Offer and get to Canada. I went on my own - hired a jeep tho. Met some locals and crashed at their's in Lake Louise mostly but all of them just used the bus to get from there to Calgary. I don't actually think any of them actually owned a car or bike, so it can't be too difficult to get about. Didn't meet many wildcampers but I guess that's down to the bears, which I must admit did make me nervous as I was walking on my own mostly. There are a few long distance walks in the rockies between roads, so I guess that's where they were hiding. You don't need bottle to get along in Canada... you'll love it.
