Hello Maralyn Does your husband want lights to see or be seen with?
|
 |
Hi Mick My Mick wants to be seen by motorists also he needs to see where hes going?
|
 |
hi maralyn welcome to the forum... from my experiance i would say its more important to be seen by motorists than be able to see owing to the fact have nearly been wiped out on more than one occasion, i resemble a lighthouse these days with lights everywhere.

This thread on the bikeradar MTB forum mentions magicshine P7's a lot. So much that they just mention P7, without mentioning "magcishine" I was just inferring it from the context, and a bit of quick googling. The consensus seems to be that they are good.

What Ifenbo says with a Hi-viz vest.

I gather that these magic shine are intense led front lights. If you want to be safe, a hi vis vest and lights on wheels facing sideways and rotating several back lights and several independant front lights (in case one goes) with lights on head, (front and back) and arms would be safer than only intense front lights. Of course you can add intense front lights to the mix, but they are really only needed to cycle fast offroad. When I drive a car a hi vis vest/jacket is often the first thing I see of a cyclist.

Yes, depending on the conditions, dayglo, reflective or lights are the more noticeable.
This discussion about spoke reflectors might be interesting - I haven't yet got these for my bike, but at fiver from Lidl, I think I should... Mind you, friends mention to my wife that they have seen me cycling and that the can hardly miss seeing me, so I am pretty obvious anyway.

Friends say to me that they can see me really well. It still doesn't stop drivers who are not looking, from driving straight through where I ought to have been. I added a flashing rotating battery driven spoke light after the last idiot coming in on me from the left at a mini roundabout with his sidewindows and windscreen frosted up. If I hadnt braked because I felt he did not see me, he would have run me down. I think he never saw me at all even as he turned around a point a few feet from my front wheel! Brain in gear at all times and defensive riding helps a bit. Predictable rather than timid riding helps too, but but if people will drive when they cant see the cyclist runs out of options

Magicshine lights are way over the top for on the road cycling, they`re designed for off road riding round a forest etc. I used to have a Magicshine 900 lumen (actually only about 650) and it was great for a few rides then I started experiencing problems with it cutting out, few other lads in my MTB club had the same problem so I opted to spend alot more on the Hope vision 3 lights and had no problems atall since

re MAGICSHINE LIGHTS My micknick is a happy bunny,he has had a new light 1 week now,he decided on the MJ808 900 lumen single bike light,it was on offer on ebay for 69.00 also its the latest one which has been modified. He says its the best bikelight he has ever had, also he doesnt have to use it on the full power setting,he is over the moon with it. Also he bought it from the bikelight company in wales,we couldnt believe how quickly it arrived it couldnt have been any quicker. Thankyou all your your messages. regards maralyncurson@hotmail.com
