Title says it all really - interested in going there this summer and seeing what state it is in - foolhardy to walk it I know but definitely considering it - would be a great story to start the summer with.

Has anyone been/ done it in more recent times?  How easy it it to get to - both the walkway and the area in general if you are not driving?  Can you pitch a tent up in the hills or is it illegal to do so?

Not thinking of trying to take a video while doing it though, like this person here:

Still photos would be enough for me instead of trying to balance the wieght of a camera as well!

Have not done the walk myself (I'm far to sensible) but have driven through the gorge and visited the train station in the La Garganta del Chorro its a very spectacular area, You can take the train from Malaga (change at Alora) or a bus from Alora, lots of climbing in the area also some big hill walks me thinks. There is also a campsite(I seem to remember it was Euro7) a climbers shop and bar all very near the train station.
Don't know about wild camp but lots of woodlands and crags to hide behind so stealth camp a possibilty?

El Torcal, not too far away

El Chorro <gulp>

I've cycled around that area. It's lovely. As Steve says, there's a campsite just along from the station, with almost every euro-climbing bum in residence over summer I think the 'walk' is still in a state of delapidation. If it isn't, I want to know

I've been considering having a crack at this. My wife's cousin lives nearby and the last time we visited we spent some time in the Sierra Grazalema. We may go again in November or May 2012 so if anybody has walked it recently I'd be interested to know the state of it as well.

I went climbing in El Chorro last Easter and I'm going again this year.

The start of el camino del Rey walk way has been removed many years ago by the looks of it. You can however climb along on old metal supports in via ferrata style clipping to a rope or bolts and then up to the walk way. The walk way itself has holes and gaps in it but there are cables fixed along the whole length, which you can clip to again in via ferrata style. Rockfaxs gives the route a grade 1 and 3 stars.
Some of the cables and bolts are newer than others, with some looking too old, so I tell you all this at your own risk.

After the gorge there is a lovely valley and more climbs. It is also possible to get into the valley by walking over the mountain top.

It is illegal to walk along the railway line going through the gorge which regularly has trains travelling along it, and police patrols. The El Chorro station is very small with only three trains a day but the line is busier as it links Malaga and Sevilla/Cordoba.
