Thank god for that I thought I was imagining things.

Sods law that they waited until I posted on it as well.

Oh yeah. It has gone hasn't it.

Funny how you don't notice these things.

Oh well, I thought that the thread was interesting anyway.

Actually I was worried it might be going to be deleted after a few people reported it to the moderator, but then it really took off and I thought it had passed that crisis.

Oh well, hopefully one of the helpful people at OM might come along and explain why - at least we'd know what to avoid doing next time to avoid getting zapped.

I think some people who reported the thread to the moderator didn't appreciate the irony at first. Maybe there needs to be a method of un-reporting a thread.
It's a pity we can't post smileys on this forum. I think they go a long way to clarifying ambiguity.

so why was it deleted? i presume that it wasn't just that some people complained - though they did feel able to contribute to it after they'd protested - does it mean that just because someone complains it gets deleted automaticly?

gear manufacturers take note....

I wonder just how paranoid this thread can get over the weekend?!?

The conspiracy theorists will be able to have a field day.

I think it was because that thread was on the grassy knoll...trying to fake a moonlanding, whilst messing with the brakes on Princess Di's car.

I didn't read the offending thread and therefore I have no idea:

a) what it was about, or

b) what was said on it.

But I would like to say that I am disgusted and you all ought to be ashamed of yourselves and don't let it happen again.

:-)

(yup, my smileys work too)

I didnt get the irony first time round cos I thought it was either a pisstake or a deliberately inflammatory thread and I apologised to Rangi on another thread.
And it was getting very interesting to read too, maybe it could be resurrected??

i'd like that as well, if the offending post could be held up and scrutenised we could all pull it apart.

or was it the the thread contained no reference to soft-shell, macpac or tgo.....

...or is it possible that the thread was hijacked and turned into a rapturous infommercial for Pa**mo?

Hiya. The thread was deleted mainly because the initial posting could justifiably have been considered offensive. Simple as that. It could equally well have been deleted because it was started by a troll. In fact it was both.

There's no problem with the issues involved or people's opinions being expressed, but even if it was intended to be tongue in cheek, it was open to misinterpretation.

Sadly it's now gone to the great deleted thread heaven in the sky where it can frolic with all the other deleted threads, of which there are actually very few.

The decision wasn't based on complaints btw, just editorial judgement. If someone complains about a thread, it does draw our attention to it, but it very definitely doesn't mean it will be deleted as a matter of course, but we reserve the right to slash and burn our way through the forum where necessary.

Apart from anything else, although it's still not totally clear, we do have a legal responsibility, or seem likely to have a legal responsibility for content published on the site.

So there you go. I don't think Paramo was mentioned btw :-)

Oh, I should also add that it can't be resurrected. It's pure dead, parrot fashion and all that.

I guess if I want to engender real paranoia I could always delete this thread?
