I have used the shops in San Francisco, Seattle and Portland OR in the US and they make for a good shopping experence. The staff are very knowledgeable on the gear on display and it is always laid out in such away that you can browse to your hearts content. The only downside is that like most "flagship stores" you do not get much in the way of discounted stock for the most part it is on sale at the RRP.

I shopped at the San Francisco one many moons ago (early 90s) and lamented to the lady at the checkout that there was nowhere like it at home. Seeing my Bank Of Scotland VISA card she said not to worry as there'd be a new Patti store opening near me soon. Further questioning revealed this to be in... Dublin.

Pete.

Well. Dublin is nearer Scotland than San Francisco .

covent garden must be the outdoor shop capital of the universe.

this in no way compensates for its distance from the outdoors

I've found the shop in Covent Garden to be shocking on customer service. I bought a mid-layer last night. When I got home and unpacked it I found it was damaged so brought it back this evening and was accused by two shop assistants of having taken the tags off the one I'd bought and put them onto an old one that I'd washed and worn and trying to return that (!!!!). Unbelievably horrible experience that I won't be repeating again - there are plenty of other shops in Covent Garden that will give me decent service that I will be using in future (a real pity as I have been buying Patagonia in France for over 20 years).

Went in there a few days after it opened and have to say was generally disappointed. Staff knowledge wasn't that good and got a feeling that there was a pressure on them to sell, sell, SELL.

The shops Stateside are much nicer affairs I suspect as they are genuinely Patagonia rather than the UK one which is a 'rebranded' partnership.

Still, never felt the urge to buy any.

Think I'll stick to the Mountain Factor and Epicentre in Ambleside. Both sell Patagonia gear, which I generally like, and it's often heavily discounted. Staff at both are helpful.
