It seems that I am one of those who does not lie still when asleep.

OK, so most of us fit into that category, and it isn't much of a deal at home, but when camping, waking up facing the inside of the hood can be disorientating and guaranteed to wake me up. Once awake of course, one's bladder wakes up, further aggravating the situation, especially if you can't escape from the bloody sleeping bag.

Is the bag supposed to follow me when I roll over (how?) or does this happen to everyone?

I think it happens to everyone. Fwiw, humans are designed to roll over periodically when sleeping to prevent bed sores - your nose blocks on one side to trigger movement onto the other, or something like that. As far as waking up with my face in the hood of the bag, no, it never happens to me, or if it does, it doesn't register - perhaps you need to Velcro your head to the inside of the bag... Or maybe not.

I happens to me, an can be a little disorienting, especially if you've forgotten your out camping, which i often do.

As soon as reality kicks in though, i just calmly unravel myself, then back to sleep.

Worse thing is waking like this and the sun is up, blinding.

Perhaps you're too thin? If you're slightly more... rotund, then there's less chance of you rolling inside the sleeping bag rather than with the sleeping bag. Eat some Mars Bars?

Is that from personal  experience ?, or perhaps not

< its ok, i think i'm far enough away  >

I must admit I have been tangled up in a sleeping bag in the middle of the night.

I can't be the only one who's woken up trying to sleepwalk in one, can I? It's not too bad in a tarp on the ground, but a bloody nightmare in a hammock.

sadly not sure the mars bars help ive managed to wake up in some funny positions in my sleeping bag

dont think ive done the sleepwalking, but i do talk occasionally and on one famous occasion sat up screaming for help, woke up whole campsite, whereon i lay down unaware.

and now i prefer sleeping in tents on my own as im toss and turn all night, im up and down to the toilet, normally 1 or twice.

when i wake up in a funny position i used to panic and not be able to breathe

now i tend to wriggle free, then get up go pee and go back to bed

I havent zipped up a sleeping bag fully for years now. I wear a  Keela,  quilt like jacket, gloves and a hat/balaclava. I have always felt a bit vulnerable all trussed up so this was my solution. Another reason is that the zips are not the easiest of things to master. I camp out in the winter and I have not changed my mind about sleeping half in/half out and it makes it so much easier to read, put the radio on and of course to make a quick exit if you have to.

You could always go to sleep with the hood over your face that way you'll wake up the right way.  Dependent on how cold it is have u tried sleeping with your arms outside the bag?

.....I always wake with the tent inner stuck to my forehead, and on more than one occasion a mosi piercing the inner and having breakfast courtesy of the said forehead.....
