I clean mine every so often with the Nikwax boot cleaner stuff and reproof them either with the Waterproofing Wax or sometimes just use the Conditioner. If they've really been abused I treat them to a massage with the Nikwax tinned wax instead of the water based dab-on stuff.
How often depends on how much abuse the boots get. Don't forget to keep the insides clean too - empty of bits of grit etc. after each walk to protect the gtx liner.
One of my pairs is on its last legs after 5 years (I only use them now for dogsbodying), but I invested in a new pair before Raichle / Mammut stopped making the women's version (b*****ds!!)
They look so lovely and pristine at the moment, it seems almost a shame to get them dirty! I got the new versions too, which have a full rand all around them. Very nice looking. I'm really looking forward to giving them a good test soon!
I echo Kate's comments but I also occasionally reproof mine with Nikwax leather and fabric spray-on. It's not bombproof but I've found it to keep a lot of the weather from sinking into the pores of the leather. Keeping them clean and polished really does extend the life of the leather as well. Cheers.
I find that after each use when my boots have get wet and dirty, I always wash uppers and soles off with some hot soapy water and a nail brush and leave them to dry naturally (away from heat/direct sunlight). On the occassions when the insides get wet, I rinse under the tap (don't tell the wife) with lukewarm water and then stuff with old newspaper to help them dry out.
Since mine are not leather, I'm not so up to speed on when/how products are used, but the above basic care should help extend the life of any boot....
