tbh parking twas just an example lol though being an ex courier I only ever paid for parking twice....very, very expensive it was too! and although I still say that a bunk in a yha is still reasonable value imho I havn't actually stayed in a yha for many moons; iyha yes but in the uk not.
As for hotels i'm sure that on a lot of sites more comfortable places could and can be found at ridiculous prices but as another poster so rightly pointed out its the clientele and surroundings which um, give a place its ambience....be they "middle class twats or stinky old men", or just the everyday person from everyday life out in the countryside which again imo should be for everyone to enjoy...
Just had a look at the Amblside hostel web site. It says 'prices from £14.65'. There are a few nights at this price up to the second week in April. There are a few nights at £25.15, including this Friday and Saturday. All other nights are somewhere in between. It is interesting to note that this Friday and Saturday are not shaded in as limited availability nights. As pre Mick Dray above, no where, as far as I can see, does it say breakfast is included.
If I ever work out the logic of airline prices I will turn my new found skills to YHA prices !
All you get for the cost of an overnight stay is the bed and a sheet sleeping bag all other items are extra. Last time I stayed at a YHA I paid an extra fee for a towel to save taking one with me. Cost something like 50p a night.
