Hi Will - glad you like it, I love mine.

The wife's Rab came last week and she loves it, its the neutrino plus so its longer and she loves the hood.  Its surprising heavy when compared to the minimus, which surprised me as I have the winter minimus (which is longer), but there is a lot of feathers in there I guess.

Hi people, just came across this interesting discussion.

My 2 pence.

I have both infinity and minimus drishell and the minimus vest M1 too very nice gear and well made lovely blue colour, i don't think the minimus can be compared to the infinity, the infinity is really really warm despite all those funky stitches, minimus rated down to -5 it does seem fairly thin in down and loft though, having said that i have also tried on the yukon. The Yukon is more on the same league as the infinity and I would expect the yukon to be more warm it was very very lofty and with box/wall it wouldn't surprise me if it was warmer than infinity.

Not sure if anyone knows I read somewhere that PHD use a less quality down in their sales compared to the standard 30day hand to made order, anyone kmw if true?

Sometimes they do - the sale Yukons are 'only' 800FP not 900 - but they'll use more of it to compensate, so you just get a slightly heavier garment not less warmth. The outer fabrics tend not to be quite the lightest they've got either.

Minimi are actually never 900, thats kept for the ultra stuff/full price Yukons etc. In the end its only a few grams difference and the 800 is still at least as good as the stuff RAB are using in the infinity

(Minimus loft surely pretty close to an infinity? Certainly seemed so when I measured it. An imperfect measure of warmth of course and only quickly in shops for the infinity anyhow. Heat pads the way to go if feeling pedantic.).

i see, so it's a case of using less down but high quality down OR more down and less quality down. why don't they use high quality down with the same amount/weight as the low quality stuff surely that will be very nice haha.

The Minimus is very nice just feels thin as if there's nothing in it.

That'll probably be because they've arranged the down fill to just achieve the loft it does. That does certainly optimise warmth/weight, although over stuffed baffles of the same loft are still going to be a bit warmer.

(but would then be a tiny bit warmer again if baffles larger etc.).
