Hi Soory shouldn't be in travel section but just spent an hour on internet trying to find cheap public transport from end of pennine way. Planning on walking/running it for a blast over easter and would like to do the eco thing and use public transport to either end. Found a cheapish train to edale but can't figure out best way of getting from kirk yetholm - cheapest train fro berwick is 140 - would be as cheap to get taxi back to edale and drive there! Live in truro cornwall by the way. Be grateful for any advice - bus routes etc. thanks in advance

Hi Lee, I too had the same issue. I ended up getting a lift from a local guy who drove like a madman, but, got me to Berwick ok. I asked around in the pub, as I remember. People in these sort of areas do tend to be more helpful. When I went to Kirk Yetholm from Berwick I ended up taking a taxi. Good luck in hunting down public transport.

.jpg) Scheduled bus from KY (across the green from the Border) to Kelso (near the town square) then scheduled bus from Kelso to Berwick. Dunno from there I'm afraid. Edited to be slightly useful.

Megabus ( www.megabus.com) go from Selkirk to London, and also from London to Redruth. Won't be a particularly pleasant journey, but likely to be the cheapest!

There is a bus stop in Town Yetholm which services the towns in the area, Kelso etc..

Luckily I finished with two others, asked the lady in the Kirk Yetholm pub how people get back, she said Taxi to Berwick which she ordered for us. Buses will be cheaper but a ball ache to do. I would be inclined to thumb it if you have the time. Ask at the pub for lift to Berwick and A1. Have a Sharpie pen with you to make signs. It can be cheaper by train if you section up the trip into single journeys to take advantage of off peak.

.jpg) The bus from KY to Kelso and then to Berwick wasn't bad. As I recall I left KY at 0830, had an hour in Kelso and was on the train in Berwick before lunch. If you can't arrange a lift to Berwick thentis cost less that a fiver I think although I'm not sure - was in 2007.

Yes Kelso to Berwick wouldn't be bad but Berwick to Edale by bus would be a bit testing.

Hi, I shared a taxi to Berwick with some other lads who finished the same day. After a few in the pub. I live in Truro but originally come from the North East. Try getting a train from Berwick to London, single and from Paddington to Truro. sometimes this can work out cheaper. The NE mainline is quick so actually won't add too much time to the cross country trip. Also Grand Central Trains are great and good value sometimes. Ziggy

Thanks Ziggy and everyone else I'll check the train options (I too live in Truro - very close to the station). However think I might be going by good old national express - take me back to my student days. It takes 15 hours but is half the price - make sure I get a good book Happy easter walking to you all

Have a really good trip, Loved doing the walk overall, but some bits were grim. You get a great sense of acheivewmnet at the end.

Last day is the toughest especially if you try and do it in one day. My advice is don't do that, even though you are walk hardened at this stage 29 miles can seriously test you and ruin your experience. I talked it through with some who did it they had set off at 5 am. I split it and camped near Windy Ghyll around half way, the weather was bad that first of the 2 days and I was pleased to stop. The weather can change slow you up and change your plans be prepared to be flexible. I enjoyed the walk and the cameraderie of fellow walkers along the way.

Last Day is a killer, did it in one and the last hill is a killer.

.jpg) Hi SD, I beg to differ. I set off from Byrness at first light which was 0545 and reached KY around 1600 although I didn't take the Cheviot detour. I'd stopped in both bothies and had a lunch break just past halfway. For me it was a fitting end to a great walk and I'd do it again. Everyone's different though.
