Someone pointed out that lambing live is on tonight. Can I please point out that you should really keep your dogs on leads when walking though a field of ewes and lambs at this time of year? I saw some people walking their dog without control in a field of ewes close to lambing. The dog was chasing the ewes and they were calling it to no avail. I tried to catch it but the dog was having too much fun playing to allow a slow human to stop it. Those people must know what their dog is like so how hard was it for them to keep the animal on a lead. I know from farmer friends of mine that it can really cause the ewes and lambs problems so can people please keep their dogs on leads for at least this time of year. Sorry for preaching what should be the obvious but there's no harm in saying what has probably been said a hundred times.

I am sure most of the folk on here know to take their crisp bags home and their dogs on a lead and also when the daffs and snowdrops flower, the trouble is some folk dont know any of the above and whats worse some of them dont care or think. Even a strange dog walking through ( with owner ) sheep will put them on edge, and thats not a good thing when they are heavy in lamb.

IMO lambing live should be renamed "wonder if you'll eat it next month"! Watch Larry be born and follow him from whom to plate ....... Personally I cant understand why my license fee is going towards such a program. Phil.

To be fair Phil, it was interesting the first time it was one. It helped to open the eyes of general joe public about the reality of sheep farming. However, it's done! There's only so many ways to pluck a lamb out of a ewe and believe me, I've been elbow deep in it enough to know that it's not beautiful! It's necessary, and 'baa lambs' are bonny, but the actual process is... well, it's like the deleted scenes from Apocolypse Now! Why it needs televising again this year is beyond me.

To get Kate humble on our TVs more! Isn't that good enough reasaon?!!
Okay, fair enough. I'm going to give you that one. It really needs Julia Bradbury as well though... I'd follow her up a hill any day.
Hmm that's what my husband says too! :/
Nah! Kate Humble over Julia Bradbury andy day. Have you seen her in a wetsuit, diving on some nature show? BTW since The Bradbury has been mentioned there is a new hill baggers list its called the Bradburys. Basically you have to climb all the hills she has done on tv. I have no idea which ones they are.

Climbing up a Bradbury, there's a thought to dwell over!! Steve D

Surely, merely by doing the Wainwrights, you do a Bradbury as well... okay, my mind is wandering a little too much. Taz, your husband has taste!

my view is more "wonder what i'll eat with it next month" struck me as a strange programme but if it educates people, and children, a bit more about the countryside then i think it must be a "good" thing. why not just shoot the dogs. that'll solve the problem. enforced personal responsibility that there are consequences. (wanders off whistling a merry ditty)

My other half was beside herself with excitement when she found out lambing live was on again - she must be the target audience.

Parky - I didn't have a gun with me so couldn't. They can of course shoot a dog but chances are if the owners are anywhere near they'll get in the way and that's not good for farmer's freedom if the owner gets a little lead in them. Still, shooting the owners and re-homing the dogs with someone who knows how to handle them might be a better long term solution. (also whistling a ditty as I wander off, but not the same one!)
