Hi Margaret,

It was great, big success. Definitely do something similar next year.

We stayed first night at 1* Hotel Madrid in Ciutadella, £15 bed and breakfast for a room single occupancy, booked through Hotels4u.com. Basic, but fine.

We stayed second night at Desmais Apartments in Cala Galdana, £15 single occupancy, room only,  booked through Hotels4u.com. It was fine.

On the walk from Cala Galdana to Son Bou we took a different route from the Cami de Cavalls. The Cami de Cavalls goes overland, but there is well sign posted coastal path that takes in lots of beaches.

We stayed third night at the 3* Hotel Sa Barrera in Cala'n Porter. £21 bed and breakfast, single occupancy, through TravelRepublic. A bargain.

On the 4th day we only got as far as Punta Prima, about half way to Mahon. It was the last day of the Premiership, and the Anchor pub in Punta Prima is the last English pub for watching football before Es Castell just outside of Mahon. After the football finished we got a bus to Mahon. Maybe we'll start the walk from here next year.

We stayed the last night in the 1* Hostal Jume, in the centre of Mahon. £21 bed and breakfast, single occupancy,  through Alpharooms. Only hotel we booked with no pool, but it was fine.

Check Hotels4U, Travel Republic and Alpharooms, they have mostly the same hotels but at varying prices. And check hotel reviews on TripAdvisor.

I bought the 1:40,000 map and accompanying guidebook. You can't get lost on the walk as its so well signposted, but need a map to get across the resorts as the entry points are not so obvious.

Hope this helps,

Alan.

Hi Alan

So glad your walk went well. It sounds great.

Definitely want to do something similar in september with my husband.

Many thanks for the info. The accomodation sounds great.

I would like to include  the Hotel Xeroy in Alcafar  and then on to es castel.

I'm in Menorca next week walking with a girlfriend  and staying in her apartment in

the north of the island. I will check out  these places.

Margy Cheers

Nice journey. I found this post very useful. I was this Mai in Minorca and enjoyed it very much. Very useful for hikes is also the page horariodebus.es, where you can find connecting and pickup opportunities by local public transport

Interested to read all comments re the cami de cavalls. Planning a week there next May with a group of friends. We have one week and would appreciate any advice on which sections to walk. Where is a good starting point? Looking to walk 18km max per day but would adjust to fit in with good stopovers. Have noted the hostels and hotels recommended and they sound great and very reasonably priced.

Is it better to take a continuous route or cherry pick sections using public transport?

Hello, I am so glad I found this page, because we are planning to go to Menorca for a roundtrip Cami de Cavalls soon and we can't find good information about how to plan, where to stay, eat, drink. First of all on the north side of the island don't seem to be any hotels and second we want to travel off season - middle of march. A lot or most hotels are closed until the 1st of April...

... any suggestions, where to stay, what to do, how to plan.

 All the best from Mallorca,

Pola

If you live in Mallorca, then you hsould find the following websites useful... http://www.elcamidecavalls.cat/cami/ and http://www.gr223.info/gr223%20cat.htm

The second website is by Jaume Tort, a mountain guide on Mallorca. All the resorts on Menorca have at least one hotel that stays open in the quiet season. I found it was easy enough to get round most of the route around that time of the year, but the northern stretch required a wild camp in the middle of nowhere. I left a 5 litre bottle of water hidden in a bush, otherwise I would have had to carry a lot of water for two long days. Even so, that long northern stretch could be broken by heading inland to a car park and arranging to be collected by taxi, then brought back again the following day. Bus services on Menorca are pretty good, but they don't all operate in the quiet season. However, they are good enough to allow most parts of the route to be reached if you base yourself in Mao, Cuitadella, or one of the inland towns on the main road.

If you need any more information... you'll have to wait for a few days.
