2 years I have had this growth/veruka! on the ball of my left foot near the big toe and nothing can sort it out.
Doctor not interested (more important things to do), tried freezing it, creaming it and sticking a banana on it overnight but the stubborn sod never goes. Every now and again a bit drops off but the rest then grows back with a vengeance.

Does anyone know how to get rid of a veruka!

Cheers

Jonny

I had a similar little b**ger on the ball of my right foot.

Verrucae, like warts, are persistent devils; until your body's immune system finds them (which it eventually will), then they're gone in a jiffy.

However, lacking patience, I used the satisfying technique of digging mine out with a nail file. It left a bit of a crater for about a month, but the relief was fantastic!

I had one of the sole of each foot, the doctor gave me "Salatac Gel" which you apply one drop at a time every evening, the skin in the area turns white and after a week or two it comes away like the top of a blister, end of problem . I dare say you could get it in a chemist.

What exactly do they look like? Reason I ask is I have this small, black mark-like thing in the ball of my foot just behind the middle toe on one foot. It is like a black line of something just under the skin but it also makes the skin stand out a bit. I can kind of dig it out a bit to leave a hole there that isn't a break in the skin but kind of like your skin had been growing around it and havinf dug it out the skin goes back to normal. But it doesn't it comes back.

Does that sound like a veruka?

I had the same problem a few years back - method that worked for me was a combination of freezing every week with liquid nitrogen and painting on a type of acid twice a day. - done by a dermatologist. The acid stuff you get off the shelf in the chemist isn't strong enough,. Important that you don't try to cut at it as supposedly this spreads the virus. At the worst case if it doesn't go away after 2/3 months, you can have it burned away using a carbon dioxide laser and done by a plastic surgeon....

I had one on the sole of my foot when i was a kid. My GP was old school. He held my foot tightly, and cut the thing out with a scalpel. Very painful, but it never came back!

This is from the BUPA website:

http://www.bupa.co.uk/individuals/health-information/directory/w/warts-and-verrucas

"Although there isn’t much evidence to show that it works, you may wish to try placing duct tape over your wart as a way of getting rid of it. Cover the wart with duct tape for six days, then soak the wart in water and rub with an emery board or pumice stone to scrape off the dead skin. Keep the wart uncovered overnight and re-apply duct tape the next day. You may need to continue this cycle of treatment for up to two months before the wart disappears..."

By the way, a verruca is just a wart on the foot - same thing.

verucca = viral = your body will get rid of it when itrecognises it is there.
duct tape method is the one i recommend, paints and other stuff just make you feel you are doing something.
is it actually bothering you in any way?

Hurts like walking on an old bruise - not debilitating but nagging and increasingly annoying.

My viral system is useless - already had it for 3 years - if it has not sorted it out yet I think I need to take more dramatic action.

Plastic surgery seems dramatic but may be the only solution

I had mine for a few years, the Salatac gel I got from the doctor dealt with it after 2 weeks of applying the gel .

Old school? He must have trained when Burke and Hare were around.

I had one and used Bazuka extra strength gel. Burnt it right out, i had a wee hole in my skin where it was and it healed with a tiny scar left behind. Even did two hills with a bit tissue and duck tape over the hole before it healed. Had the ba$tard thing for about three years before i lost patience. Go on fry it!

My experience echoes Gagfax. Kids veruccas are more likely to go without protest than the ones you get as an adult. Scraping at the thing when it's soft when you get out of the bath before you stick some gel on is more likely to speed the process. Eventually the thing will go, even though it feels like it won't.

Not necessarily, I had one for 7years which was constantly treated with podophyllum resin and several goes with CO2 dry ice. Sometimes it takes a fractured virus to produce the necessary antibodies and that can be achieved by cryotherapy. CO2 dry ice is less effective than liquid nitrogen, which is what it took for me, but if either works you possibly won't get another verucca, I never have. What is true is that with cryotherapy you need  the therapist to know what they are doing. So often failure is due to application not being long enough or deep enough.

The current conventional wisdom is that surgical excision of a live verucca should never be undertaken.
