I went to the seminar in March, had a great time, learnt loads, and even bought the t-shirt. But do you know what I had to call the event for several weeks beforehand so that a certain person would lend me his ice axe?! Chicks with d**** - feel free to guess the missing word ...

Is no-one else going to notice the blatent sexism? If women do it then they're standing up for their freedom, and independance... and all that b*ll*cks. If men were to do something like this we're archaic, or chauvanistic pigs!
I thought we were trying to get equal rights, not for women to get their own back!

I personally have no objection to a women only course. The same way as I'd have no objection if blokes wanted to go on a men only course.
And unless the organisers / participants of the Chicks Unleashed courses started saying that the men cant run their own exclusice courses then I dont see a problem.
By complaining that this is sexist, you're only playing into the hands of the blinkered minority that try and prevent anyone having an exclusive hobby / event / course / whatever if they so wish to.
Just my 10pence worth.

Granted it's sexist Drew, but it's nothing to do with women 'getting their own back'. Tis more about creating a nurturing environment, rather than one where testosterone sometimes takes over. There's nothing wrong with testosterone taking over at times, but at others some women genuinely operate more effectively solely in the presence of other women. This is not about excluding men, more about allowing women who love being outdoors to still feel like women, rather than thinking that they have to be 'one of the boys'.

Drew, why don't you report them to the Equal opportunities Commission?

Can I just point out that the photos on the website are (c) GEORGE somebody or other...

 Georgina?
Of course I could say "gives us lads something to look at" but I won't.

Annabelle Bond as President?

Under ten hours from the thread starting to Darren bringing Ms Bond into proceedings. I reckoned you'd be quicker off the mark than that...

 Hmmm,
I do think that sexism in this instance is a bit wide of the mark. In defence of Drew though, and assuming that he was making the comment tongue in cheek, he does have a valid point in one respect.
A local WorkingMENS club was taken to court a few years ago for attempting to enforce a "men only bar" within thier premises.
They attempted to defend it on the grounds of "protecting" their members wifes from the rough talk, farting and other "manly" things that apparently go on in such places.
The EOC (or whatever other quango it was) ordered them to remove the ban or risk prosecution. The club suggested opening a women only room to redress the balance. It was not good enough for the commission however, them insisting on no segregation of the sexes.
Tongue in cheek, the club threatened to open communal toilet facilities. Needless to say, the Ms's who originally made the complaint were not too happy with that prospect!!
Aren't we just getting legislative mad????

 |
Communal tiolets are a bad idea... just go to the theatre or cinema and the women are always queueing for miles. I wouldn't want that in the mens as well.

I have misgivings about the mixing of girls and boys in the Guides and Scouts. I know the girl who brought the test case did so because there was no Guide group to join but at an age where the children are developing their identity they do better in single sex groups. I worry they will be too busy impressing the opposite sex to get the best out of the activitys.
We used to have some joint activitys and some the guides and scouts did seperatly, especialy camping overnight, best of both worlds.

I'm sorry, but there are men only groups out on the mountains all the time. How many times have I bumped into a group of hairy bearded checked shirt chappies in BMC huts who look at women as if they're from another planet and shouldn't be there (or is that just me they look at like that???).
I think it's great that a bunch of women have got together to start a nurturing, supportive group for girls only. I completely agree with Hayley. It's not sexist, it's just something that is needed for some women and something that some women would really like. In the same way that some men - and I'm not pointing fingers here - just saying that there are some men who like to be out with the guys.
For goodness sakes all this politically correct stuff makes it difficult to open your mouth without worrying that one is going to say something which will upset some faction or other. When did we become so sensitive?
<OK, rant over! I'd better re-name myself the ranting nerd again>
