As mentioned in another thread I am down to the Cotswold Way to Bath on End to End from Cape Wrath.(in sections on the main trails) I am looking at the route from Bath to Lands End and would welcome suggestions or where to search. I have looked at the Two Moors way, the Tarka Trail. Prefer the most scenic though do not want to add too many miles. Across from one coast to the other down there seems the thing to do though don't want to spend so much time on the SWCpath
I came up the SWCP on LEJOG to east of Minehead - Watchet; then across the Quantocks to the Somerset Levels, up by Glastonbury before picking up a link round Bath to join the Cotswold Way. I can't remember whether there were named routes. I think I just joined up a few paths.
The SWCP was fantastic! I always said I did not like coastal walking, but, it was well worth the effort. It is hard work - lots of ups and downs, but, I would suggest this over an inland route. The other advantage is that, if you keep the sea to your right, you can't get lost.
Hard pushed not to use swcp in cornwall. Unless really like road walking. apart from TMW. AnOther way to s coast could be macmillan way, monarch way, across to E E. Devon way. Then swcp to teignmouth. Templar way. Then dartmoor onwards..
Many thanks guys, over stated the comment on SWCP, I was expecting, and indeed lookiing forward to, a fair piece of the SWCP just didn't want to meander all the way round it .
I had my doubts about coastal walking before I did the Pem.CP but found that fine and interesting.
Frankly, I believe it would be most unwise to attempt to avoid the SWCP. It's an obvious route, is in first-class condition and the scenery is magnificent.
I walked from Minehead to Lichfield three years ago and followed approximately the same itinerary that Aguirre describes. The paths were, in general, in excellent condition but I encountered a few problems just east of Nether Stowey, and again east of Bridgewater immediately after crossing the footbridge over the M5. I camped wild every night.
