Hey everyone I've just signed up to an event with the British Heart Foundation. It's the canal walk from Leeds to Skipton on May 22nd...is anyone else doing it? The scenery looks amazing! I'm just hoping the weather stays like it is now!

I'm not doing it but you'll be passing through a village called 'Silsden' (or Cobbydale, locally) and I live in the village called Steeton opposite! I've never walked very far on the canal myself but the countryside around here is beautiful, not as good as the Yorkshire Dales or further afield obviously, but then again I live here so I am bound to get used to it! I hope you enjoy your walk and have fun. Oh, and be sure to get some fish and chips from 'Bizzy Lizzies' in Skipton, they're fab.

Fish and chips after a long walk sounds fantastic! That should keep me going towards the end as my legs start to flag! The scenery in the photos I've seen looks great, I almost wish it was this weekend with the amazing weather! I'm from Manchester myself so I'm looking forward to getting into the countyside!

I know what you mean, sods law probably means its going to be siling it down when you're on your walk, but here's hoping you have good weather! Be sure to post and share some photos here on the forum when you've completed your walk, if you're taking a camera along that is, it would be good to see them. P.s - here's a link Skipton Web's photo gallery if you're interested, just some pictures and 360 degree panorama's for you to enjoy. Skipton Gallery

I live in Silsden, and I'd second the Bizzy Lizzy's idea. Loads of decent pubs in Skipton too, the Woolly Sheep and Narrowboat spring to mind... what time are you expecting to get to Skipton? \are you doing the walk in one day, or stopping off somewhere?

Hah, small world this internet lark isn't it?

It is indeed. My daughter and her fellah have just moved into Steeton!

Skipton Gallery A camera, that's a must, I need to get it charged up and ready for action! Thanks for the gallery, I love how green it looks! Yeah I'm really hoping for some good weather. I'm doing it in one day Mick, I think I should be in Skipton around late afternoon all being well. I'm intending on doing the full 29 miles! All the info is on the BHF website, I suppose if I'm still walking the next day they'll just pack up and leave with me still walking! Still, I'll have the pubs to look forward to! I think I'm looking forward to the chippy and pub more than the walk! haha

I'm doing it! 7:30 start, hoping for a 9hr time, so in Skipton for 4:30ish. Fingers crossed for good weather, I've been really lucky through my training walks.

 |
Hey Simon! Awesome! 9 hours would be a great time! I'm hoping to be in Skipton for 5pm! I did the Manchester 10k in the rain yesterday...hoping for some better weather for the BHF walk!
|
 |
Yeah, thinking 5pm might be more like it, especially as I trashed myself endurance go-karting yesterday I've done the same distance a few weeks ago in about 9h30, but that included a fair bit of getting lost in Sherwood Forest, staring at maps, having a cup of coffee in a cafe, and generally blundering about. If I get it right on the day and don't get blisters, It's not impossible. Might get my wife to meet me about 2/3rds of the way round with a litre of water to top up my tank. I always seem to run out. Not sure if i'm excited or bricking it, just yet
|
 |
Haha I'm certainly excited. We shouldn't get too lost hopefully as the BHF have put up 8 checkpoints along the way. You can start/finish at any of them so why not get your wife to start at one of them? A good time would be nice but I'm more up for the scenery etc, I'm just hoping for good weather! I'll bring my umbrella just incase!

Have yourself a good time Andy, I hope the weather is nice for you! Remember to take some photos for us to have a gander at.

Epic outing! I was the fat bloke in the black Paramo windproof with the walking poles. Just about managed a 6pm finish, despite my body deciding to totally shut down just outside of Skipton.
