I can't see where the wind up comes into anything. You say 'just to rub people's faces in it" as if I didn't belive what I actually belive very strongly, as if it was just a bit of fun. It's not. Civillian war deaths are in no way fun. In the UK you are not generally allowed to express a contrary opinion regarding the military as I know to my cost. As I said above (?) the default setting is pro-military. People get very violent about it (try for example disputing the idea that a soldier is a hero just because he's dead and see where it gets you). I'm not sure considering how much air time the pro-military camp gets without it being considrered in the slightest a wind up, that a simple contrary opinion can be classed as a wind up. I am against the state military in its current format, I find it offensive and say so and argue against it at every opportunity. No wind up. Opinion, though it does seem that I am not allowed to have one of those. The pro-military camp certainly don't think I have the right to an opinion as these sorts of post demonstrate and the pro people of course do consider it a wind up. Their problem, not mine. Even the prince by doing such a simple thing like climbing everst has to make a pro-military statement and nobody even finds it odd. I however find that wrong and in bad taste.
So yes I am "so arrogant that everybody else should have to hear and read about" my position on this exactly like I and every other person who has ever been against this sick parade of cripples and body bags has to put up with hearing how heroic, good and in the name of peace it all is.
So, if I understand "if you don't like a thread you don't have to post on it" to mean either I follow the OM party line or I shut up, then sorry, no. It's not a question of like, it's a question of interest.
(btw In my entire life I have only come across a handfull of people who openly equate nationalism to with racism. Though I'd go a bit further than you and say that it IS unquestionably racism - and that's not a wind up either).

Couldn't agree more. Anchovy cheesecake should never be served on Wednesdays.

Paddy, yes you are correct about the Greenland dogs.  They howl. They are the 'wildest' of the sled dogs, the others are 'people friendly' and live in and around peoples 'camps'. Theyare often used as 'hot water bottles', especially the Husky. It is the most 'people friendly' of the sled dogs.

They ALL howl, some more than others. The Samyod is also used by Indigenous people as a guard dog for their herds, so will bark more than the other breeds.

The Malamut usually will both bark and howl, it will howl more if with other dogs, not necessarly Malamuts.

The Husky very rarely barks, it beening one of the dogs with the closest DNA to the wolf, (99.98%), it howls, especially at sunset and sunrise. Like wolves claiming their 'territory' and calling 'pack' together at night.

The Husky is also more like a wolf, in that it can run huge distances but can't pull heavy loads, unlike the others. It's the smallest/lightest of the sled dogs.

It's also a very good hunter of smallish animals. It was mostly 'left' to find it's own food, except in depths of winter. My ones if 'allowed' to roam free in the hills, would on occasion, return and 'regurgatate' mice, rats, hares, rabbits, etc. Like they would do in the wild, to feed rest of 'pack'.

I, on many a night camping with them, when they started howling at sunset, thinking if anyone was camping near by, what where they thinking was going on? We don't have 'wolves' in the UK or Ireland............. On occasion the sound echoed off crags, down valleys, sounded like there was a whole pack of 'wolves' howling' as in a nature programmes. Might not of had a good sleep that night!!!

I have a 'welsh sheepdog', basically a working bearded collie. She looks a bit wolfish, eats everything and howls too. She'll be carrying her own backpack soon.
