I agree with Iain however Daniel is only 6 so I have to carry most of his stuff.

We have been away in father son groups of 4 and 6 , camped off the road , out of direct site even happening upon a warden once or twice , no problem. Once they get the fealing that you know what you are doing and respect the unwritten rules they are happy for you to stay a night and move on.

I find that you do need to be out of site , but this becomes a little less than on the top of the world if you arrive late then break camp early, you can still do stuff where you have got to but with a pack on the floor not a full camp layed out in front of people.

Cheers

its not remotely wild, but i took my baby daughter camping at the sheilings at craignure on mull - its a tile and carpeted tent with shower, kitchen and bedrooms and a lounge diner (they provided a travel cot for izzy) - it looks out over loch linhe and oban.

it meant that we could go to oban on the train, jump on the ferry and then pootle 600yds to the heated tent.

the local buses were quite good - we went to balamory - and went out for dinner at the very good local pub.

not cheap, and definately not wild, but camping with a baby and without the car made easy.

Phatphil, were they filming whilst you were there? We took my grandson to Tobermory and he got to meet all the Balamory characters. He loved every minute of it and I was deeply impressed by the way "Miss Hooley" was with the kids.
