Apparently some time on Thursday afternoon the site's getting a completely new look with Barbara Cartland-style pink fluffy trimmings everywhere. Okay, I made the last bit up, but the site is being completely overhauled with a new look. If you want something of a preview take a look at www.GOLFmagic.com but bear in mind that we won't be green or worshipping at the altar of Tiger Woods in the forseeable future.

Does this mean you'll be combing your fur and polishing your trash can? Both somewhat overdue.

And BTW, as you can see, I'm very fond of pink fluffy trimmings, so I'm extremely disappointed there won't be any.

I have a sneaking suspision that it will be recrafted in Gore-Tex XCR, with them new fangled waterproof zips everywhere.....

might not be the right place, but could it be
possible to extend your search facility through
the forum? Or does it take too long? Because
the same question comes back very often, so why not
making a search first? Or have a FAQ somewhere?

Hi Giles, there is a search facility on the very first forum page, the one with the major groups on that you enter when you click the forum button. I've asked for it to be extended so that it's accessible from any page in the forum.

I guess that making part of a site wide search would also be an idea, perhaps with an option to include the forum or not, ditto with the reviews.

The other thing I want to do is make the Richard Gear section searchable - so far Richard has answered, er, lots, of questions, nearly 180 I think (but maybe not) but the information is hard to get to without a lot of wading through endles questions.

The new look however, is mainly that, a new look. I'm told that it's now scheduled to appear on Friday.

It looks as though it'll be easier and quicker to navigate through the whole site, with the direct links on each page.

But as for the individual pages, there are too many words on the page, too much small print, pictures too tiddly, titles don't stand out enough. Overall, I just find it rather confusing to look at: there are no clear focal points and the eye isn't led round the page like it was before. I'm going to lie down now; it's giving me a headache.

Incidentally, forum e-mail alerts won't work for two or three days, I'm told, I don't fully understand why, but that's apparently how it is.

That's aliens for you. The beginning of the end, that's what it is....

Pretty obviously the new site has landed. What do you think? I'm not asking for the hell of it, but because if there are things you don't like, we can improve them.

Everything is up for discussion and consideration. The thinking behind the re-design is to make it easier to get about the site and, eventually, to make it much easier to get at content that's been buried up to now.

Bear in mind that this is not the finished article (I'm told) so there's plenty of scope for changes. Over to you (except Joan who has a headache...)

when I try to log on at work I get the page which tells me I'm being redirected and then I get a message saying I've performed an illegal operation
always worked ok with the old site.
probably just coincidence its started doing it at the change of site? or is there something in the new site that won't come through our firewall?what do you think Jon?

Neil, I think it's probably something to do with the redirection page. The site's been moved to a new server and, as I understand it, the redirection thing will be dropped within 72 hours, so that hopefully will sort it out. Same thing goes for the forum message notification e-mails.

There are going to be other teething problems too... And I'm going to get a kicking for putting a pic of Alpamayo high camp on the front page, but who cares, it's the weekend...

Congrats on the new look site.....must be something to do with the temperature up here, but it works perfectly well in Hartlepool. It appears that the same humour exists and hasn't been removed by the aliens. Good to see your link to the Whitley Bay Citizen last week. A class read. You can't beat us Northerners for laughs!!!!
