Hi folks,

Hope all is well. I am looking to spend 3-4 days in the South Down in June and was looking for some "local" knowledge to help find a good campsite and recommedations for walks.

Cheers,

Stephen

Ive used dernwood farm campsite, open fires allowed, cars are left maybe 5/10 minute walk away very peaceful with good wildlife (badgers on site).

Many great walks in the south downs but my fav is probably somethink involving the seven sisters and beacy head.

There is a camping barn near Amersham, the village has shops and tea rooms. You could walk the river side path wiirc is the Tess Way.

Sorry, that should read Amberley. TQ 030 123 is the approximate area of the camping barn, it is clearly shown on the Harveys map. I am wrong re the Tess Way, I was thinking about the Wey South path which includes some of the Wey & Arun navigation.

foxhole

this site just south of exceat i sideally placed for the seven sisters and to seaford. the a259 just to the north has excellent bus services from eastbourne to brighton - via seaford.

there is the seven sisters section of the south downs way and the northern loop section back to alfriston. a walk from the campsite to seaford will give you a marvellous view of the seven sisters. a circular walk along the seven sisters to birling gap then north up to friston forest and back to exceat. to name but a few walks.

Cheers Morton and Parky, The area does sound like it has some nice days out, I normally prefer to go to Wales or Scotland but the downs is handy ad its only a 2 hour drive from Folkstone.

Cheers,

Stephen

P.s. I do like the Sopranoes
