MWIS , METOFFICE, METCHECK etc?...which one do you find the most accurate?

All seem to say that the Lake District is really poor for Monday but this shows High Street as okay apart from being a bit windy......

None of them I use all the above and find if you look two or three days ahead it can change dramatically. They all seem to be fairly good on the day in question.I can remember so many occasions when a day or two prior the weather looks perfect and then on the day it pisses it down.

Metoffice is generally reasonable (better for the mountains anyway)

bizarrely Metoffice often gives a different forecast for a town than the BBC website but they both use the same source of info...?

They are fairly accurate I find - in all but the actual timing of the weather events.

is that like saying I can play all the right notes on a piano just not necessarily in the right order?

Wot he said

www.yr.no is also pretty good, and has very comprehensive world coverage. The forecasts also give detail for the night as well as daytime, a failing of MWIS if your looking at multi-day backpacking.

Yup! The day before, the forecast is usually a bit better but anything more than 1 day I've found to be pretty unreliable.

Lake District is notorious for local weather - I've spent a day in glorious sunshine and met up with a mate that evening who spent the same day in pouring rain, clag and wind...but over on the other side of the Lakes.

I just watch the MWIS and the synoptic charts for a few days before a trip - and then make my own assessment.  The synoptic chart is good for getting a feel for whats coming in from the west and south west.

I use accuweather. It's not perfect but gives a reasonable general forecast for the 'day' 3 days out and hour by hour 48 hours out for towns etc and is OK for Mountain use from teh link below.

When I use it for the Lakes I also check on nearest town and that makes for a better estimate IMO. For example I checked Coniston when I took my little girl to Wetherlam on Saturday. The timing of the showery period was pretty accurate.
