Anyone seen what the fell conditions in the Knoydart area are at the moment. The hill forcasts say there is snow falling. I think at least one has it as blizzards. Its getting me a little worried as I am up there fast and light next week and am wondering if I should be thinking winter conditions or spring / summer like in the Lakes. I know snow is always possible all year round in the highlands but is it really going to be like that now? Next week?

Not too slippy. Don't know of anyone who fell.

The way the weather is at the moment it could do anything. I'd go prepared for being cold, wet and blown about a lot. Think Lakes winter, I guess. Knoydart's not really the place to discover your gear's not up to the conditions. A few bothy and bunkhouse options though, if it all goes the way of the pear.

Who knows? In early June -most likely you'll have all 4 seasons in the one week. I'd assume the worst and then you'll be OK.
I'd agree with Mrs N above.

If you want to know the present conditions on Knoydart why not phone the Knoydart Foundation. They have a Ranger Service and should know. Slainte Lindsay

The wind has been over 100mph the last day or two - someone was killed by a falling tree just up the road from me. So, in a weeks time in Knoydart- who knows? maybe it'll be sunny, maybe it'll be windy, maybe it'll rain, maybe there'll be midges, maybe it'll be hot. Be prepared.

I was up there 2 weeks ago, and it was very wet everywhere, paths where like small streams. Snow falling over 1000 mtrs, not lying mind. So cold and wet on the tops, warm and wet at sea level, oh and the Midge has arrived too.

Metcheck has the temp as being say 4C but feeling like -4C at 12pm midday later next week. How accurate? O do wonder. Anyway I'll find out. Just hope my tarp is up for it!! Think I'll take my mitts for my cold hands. Also more warmer stuff too. But hope for shorts and tshirt weather too. I had a look at the ranger pages on the Knoydart Foundation site. Will probably contact them. I know there is a bothy at Sourlies and some hostels at Barrisdale and Inverie (probably full though). There is a second bothy somewhere in the knoydart area I think. Not sure if there are anymore as those two bothies I know of are MBA's only ones in that area. More further north and south though. Weatherwise I contacted a manufacturer / distributor of a certain outdoor product and must have dropped in that I was off to Knoydart. Anyway their customer support got back to me with an answer to my question and she told me their technical guy lived up Knoydart and something about rivers being right up and to bring my waders and a snorkel I think. Rivers in the way are an issue I have.

There is a pay bothy, Druim Bothy, at the Inverie end of Gleann Meadail, below Druim Rhigheanaich, where it meets Gleann Dubh-Lochan, map ref. NM 806 987. It is maintained and hired out by Kilchoan Estates and a very fine and cosy bothy it is, too. It's in an ideal location from which to tackle Meall Buidhe and Luinne Bheinn. Ladhar Bheinn is within easy reach, too.

Sounds good. Do you have to contact them before? Will google. Google has the answers.

.JPG) I was there or nearby, from the 12th to the 14th. Very wet underfoot, rivers and tribs all high, snow lying above 950m, flurries above 800... tarping possible if drained ground available (!?), but I'd prepare for cold and wet conditions... and midges as the weather seems all over the place at the moment.

You back home from your trip Mole? Or still travelling but in wifi area? Still thinking about your MLD patrol shetler and the nest. You haven't sold it have you? If not I will no doubt have to relent and set up a paypal account despite my resistance to it. Just need to find out how my bank balance will be after I get back from Scotland before deciding. I won't look at the balance until I'm back home. Don't want to spoil my trip worrying as I've been hammering the online gear shops of late.
