Well i can report back on Backpackers club

Having sent of my £12 i had an email back today with my username and password for the members area.

The campsite list and long distance path list are well worth it just in themselves

1 very useful download was the campsite directory in KNZ format which than then be imported into google earth and displays them and location information on the google earth maps, very handy indeed in planning.

Both lists have 100's of very cheap campsites, a real bargain at £12

Hi, when you get onto Bodmin Moor i can probably offer you some families fields free of charge, there wont be any facilities but you will be right up on top of the Moor, quiet, peace, very very few walkers or tourists as its a working Moor.  You will have to excuse the Moor ponies and sheep and cattle who have Moor rights but put yourself up against a stone wall and you will have shelter and blissfull quiet.

Let me know i will put you in touch. They wont bother you, although no fires. Just watch out for The Beast of Bodmin lol. He is not very big and runs at human sound. Good luck on your trip.

P.S I can give you a site outside Padstow thats £20 a night also lol.

We have been on the SWCP for the last few summers and yes agree camp site costs are horrific when you think that we only want tea time to breakfast time accomodation and certainly dont want all the facilities offered. The Backpackers Club FPD and LDP directory are excellent starting points for planning. In terms of update they are as good as reports by members. We have ben updsating the last couple of years through to Falmouth from Minehead. Wild pithing is doable, though you may have to pick up water, and in some cases not as wild as you would really want with quite a lot of habitation particularly on the southern coast. N Devon / N Cornwall certainly a lot easier. Another source of info is the SWCP Association accomodation guide. It is geared more around B+B, but is very useful for planning purposes, this sections broken down in time and grading. The big shocker is how much effort is needed to walk it, do not underestimate the severity, and the amount of ascent you will be doing 0-100m tens of times a day is quite normal!
