Spanish Claim 'Absolute Rubbish'
Alan Hinkes has expanded on his rebuttal of a Spanish climber's claim that he left him 'bleeding to death' on K2 in 1994. Film of the incident, he says, shows no blood at all...

that surely the Spaniad realises that seeing as Alan filmed the event, that this footage would show Alan was telling the truth? So why make wide claims now? Is he hoping to raise his own profile at the expense of Alan?

If he's hoping for a bit of a leg-up next time he meets Alan on a climb, I think he's going the wrong way about it!

I don't think he's making new claims. The story itself is quite old now. This all goes back to a report in a Spanish magazine.

mounteverest.net resurrected the claim in an article following Alan's success on Dhaulagiri. The whole article was very much "anti" Alan, with a claim that his ascent of Cho Oyu was unsuccessful and that he had "dissappeared for 6 weeks". It looks like someone who really disliked Alan put it together, and the press noticed it after OutdoorsMagic Forums ran a thread on the article.

What really surprises me, still, after the years have gone by, is that GWB is president and his brother Jeb isn't in jail for rigging the election that way. The fact that some anonymous jealous tosser has it in for Alan Hinkes pales in comparison.

I'll get off me soapbox and put me coat on

I like the way he says

"while I stood there bleeding to death."

Might just be his figure of speech, but most people would say "while I lay there". Either that or he's one tough cookie.

If he was bleeding 'to death' then he must be dead now.
If he isn't then he's a liar or someone who likes to twist the truth.

But surely if you are bleeding, and to be bleeding to death you would expect LOTS of blood, it would be on the tape of Alans. For example lots of red snow would be a big give away.
Or did he scratch himself, in which case I was bleeding to death yesterday when I scratched myself walking the dogs.

you have a point, but then wouldn't they be dead really fast or something. Or are the movies/tv wrong again?

Dam, so many things are just not like the movies/tv.

I agree. Jealousy or envy or something.

<Hijack>
Ben, were you in Cotswolds in Betws y Coed on sunday?

If not, then it was another REALLY tall ginger bloke that looked like you.

Would have said hello, but really wasn't sure if it was you or not.

I'll repeat:

If he was bleeding 'to death' then he must be dead now.
If he isn't then he's a liar or someone who likes to twist the truth.

You can't bleed to death and then survive!!!

If he was bleeding to death and it was internal, he would have been dead very fast and certainly not here now to be whinging about it, the wasack!

Agreeing with the jealous, nasty, backstabbing bit. Wish there were more people about who were happy with themselves as they are and prepared to accept that there will always be people in this world who are better/more able/talented than you and also people who are less talented/able than you. It's just the way life is. Being jealous of other people because they have achieved something you can't or something you are unable to ever achieve is a pointless waste of time. I work with some people who are like that and it makes for very unpleasant and unhappy situations on occasion and doesn't help anyone. Just makes the bitter, jealous person look like a t*rd.

I could get into a rant here because I've met so many people like this, and also had to walk away from 20 years of freindship with someone because of it. It makes me so mad I could spit bricks....

<shuts up and gets off soapbox before being accused of being ranting nerd....again>

I'm well adjusted to the fact most people are more talented/able/better than me :-)
