Hello im on holiday from work end of June and am wanting to do so some wild camping. the only thing is that I have only ever bivvied when doing bike touring and that was behind bushes so no one could see me. Is there a company or anyone that would be able to show me the steps of wild camping and how to be safe. many thanks Matty
Well I have never used a tent apart from at campsites so help with where to pitch a tent methods used to pitch a tent when ground is rocky icy equipment to take. It might sound daft but I can imagine using a tent is a lot different compared to using a bivi bag.
Matty - suggest you'd be ok if starting cautiously and working up. So camp not that far from bale-out options, where it's fairly sheltered, and take it from there. Start when the weather forecast is reasonable and winds not too bad, get a feel for what seems ok and slowly push things a bit. But as above, you'd gain lots from meets with others.
To some extent it depends on your gear - how tough, how heavy, how far are you willing to carry it. Perhaps try not too far initially, find a good spot early, then leave the tent and go for a wander. You may want to take a survival bag, too, if leaving the tent behind. Or just enjoy being there, read a book, look at the wildlife etc - and oh, drink tea or whisky???
