Was there some special attraction on Snowdon this weekend? A group of friends and myself climbed Y Lliwedd, then decided to carry on up the Watkin path - which was like the A5 - and the summit was absolutely chokka! Garnedd Ugain by comparison was heavenly quiet! Did everyone decide to just go for it because of the weather forecast on the Sunday? OK there were loads of tourists off the train but I've been up Snowdon a couple of times before but never seen it so busy!
Yeah - just managed to get the tent packed away before it came in . There were quite a few folk on the campsite who said they had changed their plans because of the weather so you're probably right Kate, but honestly, I've never seen anything like it. From the route up Y lliwedd we could actually see a solid line (40-50 in one group) of people going up the pyg track, so I can only imagine what it was like on the Llanberis path. Even the Wakin path was busy.
Stop going on about it, I'm having flashbacks of hordes of moaning gits and diesel fumes
Even crib goch gets hammered, the only solitude is taking a different approach and skirting the Llanberis path but along the crags and over Lechog, it still isn't quiet though. I reckon there were over a thousand people around the summit last time I was there.
There might have been a charity walk. Snowdon is a cracking mountain but wayyy too popular to be able to enjoy it. As said above, I wait til winter if I`m doing it now
Going late in the day can work well this time of year when it's not dark until 10. Try this on a sunny day, the colours around the horseshoe are great in the evening sun. And it's not too hot.
