Kate, don't know if you've seen this, but it might be of interest as (I think) you help train these rescue chaps.

Eric

And if they are too late, then my colleagure's dogs may come in handy - she trains them find dead bodies.

Hi Eric, thanks for posting that up. Yes, I know Helen and Cluanie. Cluanie's an absolutely gorgeous dog, and Helen's a very experienced SARDA handler. It's nice to see them getting on the news with this

Roos - I've met one of the local police cadaver dogs, though don't really want to think about how they train them

Kate, was Cluanie one of the dogs that you helped train? I seem to recall you mentioning you'd spent a few hours lying 'injured' under a rock somewhere in the Tryfan (?) area last year.

It is always a mystery to me why the marketing department of a pet food company havent twigged onto the SARDA dogs - bit like MRT teams getting gear, surely some company could supply the dog handlers with topknot nosh for the mutts?  Or...have I mised something?

(Cluanie looks a character)

Eric - yes, I have 'bodied' for Cluanie, and I was a 'casualty' found by her during her assessments last autumn when she qualified as a searchdog

GOM - already done; our SARDA South Wales team is sponsored by Burns dog food, which is a local company. , at least for the dogs!

She's actually quite an unusual breed - a Welsh Sheep Dog, legend has it that a fox was crossed into the breed, and at times she looks more like basil brush than basil brush. A great dog. We rescued her from a farmer that didn't deserve her.
