I've got a flight from Bristol to Glasgow next week for a wild camping trip.

I've already realised I'll have to leave my camping gas at home and buy when I get off the plane.

But what about multi-tools? I have a small Gerber that I was going to put in my hold luggage, but Easyjet has restrictions on many items including "knives of any blade length". Should I risk taking it?

get clarification from Easyjet - ring the airport desk and ask them.  It might be OK..it might not,,,depends (in my experience) how the local desk and airport security interpret the Easyjet regs

You'll be ok if you put it in your hold baggage

http://www.easyjet.com/en/book/regulations.html

It's there in section 10 - the "knife blade of any length" bit is in the list that mustn't be carried on board the aircraft 'on the person or in cabin baggage'

I had an embarassing incident once as a teenager on a flight to the states when I 'pitched a tent' in my sleep... but otherwise you shouldn't have anything to worry about

What about gas stoves, I've been reading they do get confiscated on occasion due to the "sniffer" devices in use at security reacting to traces of gas in the stove?

Yup...but again if you look at the airline's own regulations you will see how to avoid this happening - but be prepared to have a copy of the regulations with you and stand your ground with security.

I have had to do this twice at Liverpool - with security quoting Easyjet rules to me..me quoting Easyjet rules to Easyjet information desk...Easyjet desk quoting Easyjet rules to security...me keeping my stove.

Airline regulations and airport security are different. See extract from Easyjet regulations:

Hand baggage regulations in many airports are currently subject to change at short notice. Additional restrictions imposed by regional or national authorities and governing hand or hold baggage may be in force at the time of carriage. You may also be advised of changes to the hand baggage allowances or procedures set out in these Carrier’s Regulations via e-mail communications from easyJet.

You wont get one on as handluggage - or, at least I really wouldnt risk it - as you fall under the national security regs for that...and they get upset about nailclippers never mind a stove.  Bottom line on that one is..if the airport security say No then its a No or a very long wait...because, if they decide it could be used as an offensive weapon or a potential explosive, then it is...

That said, eldest daughter flew Dublin to Manchester recently and Dublin wanted to take her Lancome makeup as it could be used to hide explosive (a powder puff for gawd's sake)...daughter stood her ground and kept demanding to see the manager.  The arguement was she had two sets of makeup - one in her hand baggage and one in her hold baggage - which was suspicious!

Once they realised she was 3 hours early for her flight...so had loads of time and wasnt going to give in..the manager arrived and sent her through.

Hold baggage falls under the airline regs and national regs  - thats the ones I had fun with.

Blimey. I had a read at Easyjet's regulations and they state any gas powered device are not allowed on flights to Switzerland. I've been naughty last time I went there...
