Hi All,

Anyone know the best way to travel from Zermatt to Geneva airport? I hear the train is expensive. So is going by bus better?

I know its a simple question, but id love to draw on your own personal experience.

Thanks

I looked at this last year and the train came out the least expensive.

While there are quite a lot of inter airport transfer buses in France, there don't appear to be any operating that route. But you can find 'private' transfers - generally not worth it for one person.

If you buy a Swiss Pass it covers rail travel, except those on the higher peaks, as well as bus and ferry trips. Worth it if you are making several journeys within Switzerland on public transport.

In Switzerland there are not many journeys where there is a bus / train alternative. Zermatt has NO buses, so you vould have to start by train or walking! The train Journey Zermatt - Geneva Airport (change at Visp) is very pleasant. Take food and drink with you as most Visp - Geneva trains don't provide any.

Zermatt to Geneva airport: train is pretty much your only option. You have to get the train down to Visp where you get the train directly to the airport (train stops in the airport). Cost about £36. So no point getting a Swiss Pass. (Like Julian said). And it is a very nice train ride if the weather is good!

You have an option of buying cheaper tickets in advance but they are only for some journeys, generally in the middle of day and I don't think gva-zermatt would be part of the available journeys.

Hi Thomas,

Just did the journey last week. Why not hitch a lift from Zermatt to Visp then a train to Geneva? Walk out of Zermatt towards Tasch and it will surprise you how many cars are traveling that direction, especially since cars are banned in Zermatt itself. I was able to get a lift with only the fifth car to pass me. Train fare to Geneva CHF 56 (£45) from Visp. 21/2 hours approx.

(Swiss travel card CHF110, not necessary)

I can tell you if you are looking for transfer in Austria or other cities then this website is very helpfully www.taxi-finder.com. I always use this service for my trips and I get good prices. Important you have in a short time direct contact to the local taxis.
