If you have been happy using the limited Satsync with your shiny Satmap then...

Satsync doesn't work with Lion. Ho hum. Back the drawing board.

It took Satmap seemingly aeons to produce something that would work on a mac so themind boggles how much longer it's going to take to get one that works with Lion.

I have an unnatural cynicism about such matters. It does make the new Garmins THAT much more attractive or a Lowrance...

(Apple have just introduced their new operating system for the fisher price...erm...mac pooters and it's called Lion. Satsync don't work with it!)

lion is the latest apple mac operating system i.e. the apple version of windows except that apple's version works. apple like naming their operating sytems after cats. the one before lion (the new super dooper one which begins to converge all of apple's devices ) was snow leopard.

as i'm a new user of apple pooters i'm not phased by the changes and i rather like them - i wish i'd taken the plunge years ago as they're sooo much better use.

satsync took forever to bring out a mac version of a basic programme that will talk to the satmap unit - download and upload routes and update the firmware. now we're back to the dark days again...

One might argue that a piece of software running on one version of an operating system (and therefore, at some level, compliant with an OS API) should run on the successor OS; backwards compatability an all that.

So a new OS that doesn't support this backward compatability (a not unreasonable expectation, IMHO) might be considered to be 'not working'...

good point capt. on the other hand if satmap's programme was written properly in the first place...

it's the only programme that doesn't work (apart from the hell that is itunes taking over the world). anyway i'm sulking and i don't care...

> good point capt. on the other hand if satmap's programme was written properly in the first place...

Well, I wouldn't like to say which end was at fault: it's possible that their code wasn't fully API-compliant (hence my 'at some level' comment), and was just creaking along under CrouchingTiger (or whatever...), and FatFurryCatPuss* is a stricter/different implementation of the API that turns the creak into a thud...

* I think a nomenclature based on cartoon cats might be more fun...

iTunes taking over the world?  Pah, not at ParanoiaTowers... We're looking at a DLNA-based media distribution system, which might end up with little media-playing elements made from Gumstix or BeagleBoard cards, running Linux and XBMC, controlled by an Android phone running 2player... Still very much at the information-gathering stage, but it looks promising at the moment...

Hmmm... off topic a bit there...

lol. no option with itunes. too many apple products - and no decent music management software (looks at mediamonkey lovingly like i used to before).

after 5 hours with a loaned Satmap courtesy of Cotswold Outdoors on Snow Lepard I gave up - I'm told it does work but didn't for me!
Looks like I'll be getting a Garmin- anyone have an opinion on the Etrek 30?
