Just as stated above. The only 2 sites i could find (in my crap search) are accu & windfinder. The second one does give me the maumturks which is what am after at the moment, but doesn't give me any cloud base which would be handy as this area usually generates a different front than that of surrounding areas. So if anyone knows of any other sites i would be grateful for the info. Cheers
Just got back from a fortnight in Kerry and couldn't find anything to rival things like Met Office Mountain Area Forecast, MWIS etc.
I ended up using a combination of Accuweather, Irish Met Office (largely using their Atlantic Charts), and the BBC, the latter for the weather report for Valentia where there's a Met Eireann observatory.
Cheers kate, I've been looking at the irish met charts.
Hate reading charts as am useless at it. If i remember right, blue triangles (cold front)in summer means it could be heavy rain, red simi-circles (warm front) means could be light rain, purple yokes (f**k knows what front) means cold passes warm front so chance of rain & triangles & simi-circles together means front stays still so could piss down all day in the one spot with out moving on. Isn't it on a high pressure the wind turns clockwise? Always meant to get around to learning charts, guess i should start!
edit: One question, isn't it the higher the pressure the more chance of rain?
Ah yes, they're a bugger to interpret! I only do it on a very basic level I'm afraid. But I've also found that twitching the curtain back at 7am to see whether I can see the top of the mountain at the back of the garden from our rental cottage helps me decide whether it'll be a good day for walking
There is a saying in West Cornwall where I grew, " If you can see the Scillys, it's going to rain", If you can't see them, it's raining". My mum moved from Penzance to far west cork. It's very similar - Not to put a dampner on it (excuse the pun) just assume rain.
I love it over there and oddly, thats partly why.
Sure you will enjoy it, and the sun will shine. If not, just have a drop of the black stuff and a you wont be bothered anyway.
I use www.yr.no quite a lot these days, a Norwegian site I first discovered on my winter trips there, but it gives forecasts worldwide and a search brought up the Maumturks.
You don't get cloudbase but I have found it pretty good overall.
Edit: Just noticed, if you click the little link for 'Detail' on the left you do get a bit more info on cloud level...
Up until a few years ago I used to spend most weekends walking in the Reeks or further afield and always took the weather forecast with a pinch of salt.
As Kate mentions there is nothing to rival the Mwis, Accuweather is Ok but the proximity to the Atlantic can make for 4 seasons in one day.
You will love the Turks, that neck of the woods is amazing.
