We are hopefully off to The High Andes, the Atacama and Patagonia this winter. 2 questions for people who have been there.
Do Chile and Argentina mostly sell screw on American/British style gas canisters or French Bluet type pierceable butane canisters like in Spain?
I have heard that there is such a thing as a southern hemisphere compass. The lines of force in the northern hemisphere dive into the earth. The greater the latitude the more the red end of the compass is pulled down. I believe compasses are weighted to balance this out. Thus in the southern hemisphere especially at high latitiudes northern compasses do not work so well. You perhaps need a southern compass weighted at the white end?
We went to Peru and Bolivia and I do not remember any problem. Is this a non issue? If we do need a southern compass does anyone have one lying around unused that we could hire or borrow?
