I believe Southport is very nice, and recommend the Auberge Bistro for an intimate meal and the Scarisbrick Hotel.

Failing that, the Wickanninish Inn, Chesterman Beach, Vancouver Island, Canada is great; especially spectacular if the early storms come in and the Pacific Rim Rainforest is wonderful..Hire a car and drive /ferry from Vancouver
Then get a seaplane taxi back from Tofino to Vancouver and go up to Whistler via Greyhound bus, [stop at Squamish for climbing The Chief ]
and then back home to happily ever after.......

I went to Cranbrook, just south of Banff, last April, very much off season. Too much snow on the big mountains to get anywhere near them in a car (so a long walk) but no 'fun' snow on the lower slopes that you could frisk around in. Bit betwixt and between IMHO.

Good luck though.

Tim

just a thought, how about northern greece?you can walk/scramble the mighty vikos gorge 3500 deep and no tourists(why not go skinny dipping?)((you know the one in james bonds for youre eyes only))then walk with the bears in the equally spectaculur aoos gorge and beat the lot with one of the best walks around through the monastries of meteroe.(that film again)
then play snowballs around metsova in the morning before laying by the murmuring med in the afternoon!
its cheap to get to as well and april is fab

Atcually Julian, Greece was one of our possibles, but we went to Greece this year too.

In any case, in a total departure from the original idea we have decided to go to Scotland! I realise that it will probably rain every day but we quite like British weather and if it is terrible weather then we can just stay in bed and cuddle.

It is also pretty flexible so we can move around depending on the weather. I basically fancy going up the West Coast, getting across to some of the islands, maybe Mull etc. Doing some hill walking and plenty of eating and drinking.

We couldn't decide where to go abroad as both had different ideas, but as soon as we mentioned Scotland in passing we both got quite enthusiastic. Daft I know. Plus it will disgust my best man and his wife who want us to go to Mauritius or somewhere!
