will still be going, but have booked a hostel rather than a campsite and might have a bimble around the valleys instead of the slightly ambitious (and elevated) route I was going to do.
I have completely blown the budget and booked a nice B&B for the week, It will be a test of my will power (stupidity?) if I get out every day.
I have to get some Welsh summits in my logbook so that should provide enough incentive.
so, it looks like we're going to get the tail-end of hurricane Katrina this weekend, just when I was planning a nice trip out to Snowdonia . Anyone else been put off by the forecast?
We spend hundreds on waterproofs, windproofs, down jackets, synthetic jackets etc..
Spend hours on here talking about it.
Then don't go 'cos of the weather.
Here here.
The worst weather changes quickly (strong wind brings rapid changes). Worst-case is sit down in any shelter and have a cuppa, it will be better in an hour. If after an hour it is still bad, if going up, cancel that idea, begin going down. That will cover more situations than any weather forecast. I once found myself on a ledge with the weather trying to kill me and I decided to buy a Bothy. I've never since used that Bothy - its my "charm".
I'm more familiar with the Lakes weather than any other region, I learned to totally ignore weather forecasts and just be prepared to retreat on the hill as required. Still, I always pack a meal, and shelter for a season lower than I'd expect.
Lakes, be gentle to me for 5 nights in late September (with my new GoLite Peak pack, blah blah).
No scorchy hot weather next week, some hp ridging above us but it also opens up the door for cold air from the north. How long the ridge will last, who knows...
Yay!! - I 'm off to the pointy bit at the end of Cornwall, The Lizard.
Lucky sod! I'm stuck at home this weekend
I wrote that on Friday. But on Saturday morning I thought "Feck it, I'm off", chucked the tent in the car and went to Cornwall anyway. I wanted to stress-test my Zephyros but Hurrican Katia must've seen me coming and buggered off to Scotland
