Hi, I am going to the lake district for abit (could be a week, or a month or anywere in between), and would like to know if anyone has and reccomendations for a good camp site or sites.

I don't really mind were I go, but would prefer to stay away from the high touristy places.

Clean showers and toilet are a must, no need to pubs near by, and I am 1 man, 1 tent, no car.

To start the ball rolling I have found these ones:

http://www.churchstile.com/
http://www.castlerigg.co.uk/
http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/campsites/lakedistrict/facilitiesandprices.htm

They are around £4-£5 a night, which is about what i can aford (the less the better)

Thanks for your time :)

Personal faves are the one in the Duddon Valley and the one at Buttermere. Both tucked slightly away from the real honeypots.

I can definately recommend Side Farm, just outside Patterdale. Easy access to Kidsty and Hellvelyn (spelling?). Spectacular setting right on the banks of Ullswater. It was my favourite campsite of the whole coast to coast walk I recently completed.

don't turn up on a motorbike!? You're kidding, when we where there, a group of german bikers were staying over- at least six\seven bikes. To be fair, they weren't that rowdy!

I wasent saying bikers were bad, its just the way they treat you when you arrive, never went back but maybe they have learnt from our exapmle that we don,t rip up the grass or behave like maniacs.

Try Gillside, up the road from the Infomation Centre in Glenridding. Great pub along the lane.

I agree with Mat , fisherground is Ace, only found it this year and have been back half a dozen times, would only cost £4 a night if you are on your own with no car and the train stops 20 yards from the capsite (small narrow gauge) but I think it links with the raven glass line at some point although I would check in to this.

Cheers
