I've posted something along these lines in the Gear forum so apols if you've read it there....
Having thought I'd managed to get a bargain by price matching a Memory Map Adventurer 3500 at GO, I got home and got it set up on teh PC, read the destructions etc. Already having Memory Map software I wasnt too surprised when everything just seemed to download quite nicely and I seemed to be able to operate all the software as required. It was only when I transferred my existing 1:25k maps from the PC to the Device ( an action only allowed once!) that I realised that some other little S****e has registered all the software in the box!!!! So now I either keep the device (with my maps on it) but all the other software registered to someone else, or return it and lose my maps.
Anyone else had a similar problem??? I'm flaming steaming. How the hell can a) someone be so damn cheeky and b) the shop not think to bloody check!!!!!!!
I bought a DVD on eBay, described as "brand new and factory sealed", only to unwrap it and find a John Menzies till receipt inside. Now how did that get there?
If someone else has registered the software, then it's not fit for the purpose you bought it for, so you can take it back for a new one, or a full refund.

Oh dont worry paddy - I'll be back there tomorrow am sharpish.
Its more the fact that I'll lose /have lost the ability to transfer my exisiting maps now that really bothers me - theyr'e worth the best part of £50!!
Once you've dealt with the shop, surely it's worth contacting Memory Map? I've no idea what their customer service is like but they must have a mechanism to rectify the once-only download in a case like this. What would they do if your new device had proved to be faulty and been exchanged by the manufacturer? There can't be anything lost in asking them...
Alternatively, you could suggest to the shop that they compensate your loss regarding the maps.
